Goiznabar Monclus, Javier Escudero and Hodei Orueta are three young men from Bilbao that have formed the group “Biziklautak.” These students from the University of the Basque Country left on July 6 for a 40,000 kilometer trip that separate “Bilbao from Bilbao,” meaning a trip around the world. Armed with backpacks and the necessities to live for 18 months, they hope to share their experiences and the idea of entrepreneurship at all the universities that they visit. They will be broadcasting their trip on their website in three languages: Basque, Spanish and English.

Soraya Molina/Donostia-San Sebastian.  Goiznabar is a student in Fine Arts, Javier studied Business (LADE) and Hodei has a degree in Classical Philology; and the three make up “Biziklautak.”  Hodei and Javier have been friends since kindergarten, and Goiznabar has known them for 5-6 years.  The idea to take a trip around the world was born when they were planning to go to India on bike, a year and a half ago.  Jorge, a friend of them, and Hodei came up with it and they told Goiznabar about it and quickly convinced him to take a trip around the world instead of "just going to India." When they realized that the project was becoming true, “we were kind of sad to leave our family, friends, and those close to us for such a long time,” Goiznabar told EuskalKultura.com.

Nevertheless, Jorge had to abandon the project and Javier joined the group just two months prior to leaving.  They left Bilbao five days ago and they started the expedition.  They are currently in Iruña-Pamplona and over the next few days they plan to head towards Isaba, even though they don’t have a defined route.  What they do know is that they want to go through the south of France (crossing the Pyrenees) to Istanbul.  From there they will travel to the Unites states (New York, Washington, Minnesota, Chicago), Australia and India among other countries.  If any Basque clubs would like to get in touch with them, they can do so through their website: http://biziklautak.es, where you can see what country they are currently in.

The project was made possible thanks to EiTB, The University of the Basque Country, the Basque Government, the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, Euskaltel Foundation and a pharmaceutical company FAES.  One of their goals is to share the idea of entrepreneurship in the universities in the places that they will visit.
