The Eskualduak Basque Club in Montpellier will be the site of the French Basque community this weekend.  For starters, on Saturday, it will host the annual French Basque Clubs meeting, that will be attended for the first time by the young Basque club in Marseille.  Afterwards, on Sunday, the club’s annual festival will take place with entertainment provided by Jean Louis Bergara and Beñat Chaubadendeguy.

Montpellier, France. This weekend, September 24-25, there will be a lot of Basque atmosphere in Montpellier, thanks to members of the Eskualduak Basque Club and friends who are coming from surrounding clubs.

The program of activities will begin on Saturday with the Annual Meeting of French Basque Clubs.  This year, there will be some new items; one is the presence of two new official clubs.  The first of these is the hosting club Eskualdunak in Montpellier, which was founded in 2003, and has a large established membership, but who only took the steps recently to become officially recognized this last April.  The second club is the Euskal Etxea of Marseille that was founded more recently and has also been recognized by the Basque Government.  This will be the first time that they are attending the meeting.

Other clubs attending include: Pau, Paris and Bordeaux.

Basque Festival

The next day, on Sunday, Eskualdunak will celebrate its annual Basque festival, that the representatives from other clubs are also invited to attend.  They are hoping for a large crowd, keeping in mind that prior editions have attracted more than 100 people.

The program follows:

-10:00 Welcome
-10:45: Mass in Basque celebrated by Fr. Mounho.
-11:45: Aperitif prepared by Michel Loustau.
-13:00: Lunch prepared by Correau Catering
-After lunch there will be singing and dancing and a dance to the music of Jean Louis Bergara and Beñat Chaubandeguy.
