On Friday September 12th the Gure Mendietakoak Basque club in Caldas-Antioquia, in Colombia, celebrated the “Antiokiako Euskaldun Jaia 2014.” The event gathered friends and members of the club at the Akelarre restaurant in Medellin where they enjoyed Basque food and music with a concert by Kordazero.

Medellin, Colombia.   The Gure Mendietakoak Basque club celebrated a Basque festival at the Akelarre restaurant in Medellin where members of the club gathered to enjoy and share the richness of Basque music and cuisine.

Besides the “delicious dinner,” according to club sources, attendees could also listen to Basque music thanks to a performance by the Basque folkloric trio Kordazero.  The group is part of the Basque club and performed some songs by Jesus Guridi as well as Colombian folkloric pieces.

Book on Basques in Antioquia

The Basque culture will continue to be featured over the coming months in this area of Colombia since the Center of Basque Studies in Antioquia is celebrating its 10th anniversary.  The association will celebrate by publishing a book The Basques in Antioquia under the Austrias.  This first volume is the result of various years of research by historian John Alejandro Ricaurte.  The work will include four volumes in all that are currently being developed.
