On July 31, the Basque territories of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola.  The Basque clubs in Argentina also do the same and pay tribute to their patron saint on July 31 as well as with festivities that develop throughout the month of August.  The proposals are varied, but always with the same objective: to maintain a celebration that the Basque immigrants brought with them from their homeland to settle in a new country.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   As July continues, the Basque community all over the world is getting ready to pay tribute to St. Ignatius of Loyola.  In Argentina, the feast enjoys special prestige on Basque club calendars, motivated, without a doubt, by being the most celebrated festivities by those who founded their clubs.  This is why some institutions organize programs over several days; and other, commemorate the day more modestly with a religious celebration.

Here is some information on some of the festivities at various euskal etxeas.  If your club event doesn’t appear on the list email us here so that we can include it.
