March 8th is nearing, next Saturday when various sectors of society will be celebrating “Women’s Day” with various educational and recreational activities. In Argentina, the Basque community recognizes the importance of this event and joins in the festivities as many Basque clubs who invite everyone to celebrate the day. For many institutions, this will be the first community activity of the year. In the following article, invitations come from Ayacucho, Chacabuco and Villa Maria.

Ayacucho, Argentina. For some people it is a festive day, for others, one of reflection.  In either case the goal is the same: dedicate a day of gratitude and tribute to work done by women, many times in hostile environments and others without recognition. Here are some of the celebrations that will take place next Saturday in numerous places in Argentina and the world.

In the case of Basque clubs in Argentina, “Women’s Day” will be recognized in a climate of joy, and predominantly with dinners and musical performances.  The events that will take place throughout the weekend will begin on Friday March 7th in Villa Maria.  The club that hosted Semana Vasca 2013 is holding a big dinner organized by the Commission of Women that will take place in the Euskal Herria room at the clubhouse. Throughout the evening there will also be raffles and a special surprise for all women present.  The cost of the tickets is $150 and they can be reserved until March 5th at the clubhouse or by calling: 0353-4534400.

The Euskal Odola Basque club in Ayacucho in the province of Buenos Aires will also celebrate on March 8th starting at 21:00 as well with a dinner at the clubhouse.  The event will include dinner (empanadas, chicken with Basque potatoes, and Pyrenees ice cream) with a musical performance and dance.

Along with the invitation to the party, the club would also like to remind you that they are still selling raffle tickets to benefit the club.  The raffle will be held in April and prizes include two motorbikes and a car.  They also let us know that they held one of the drawings on February 22nd and Victor Lorenzo won a moped with number 4733.

THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF GUILLERMO LARREGUI

Another invitation comes from our local office in Chacabuco also in the province of Buenos Aires, thanks to the Guillermo Larregui club.  There, International Women’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday the 9th at 20:00 with a potluck dinner, with drinks and dessert available at the club bar.

This being the club’s 25th Anniversary year, the Guillermo Larregui club also announced that it is organizing a Basque taberna on March 28th and on June 198th they will celebrate its 25th.  Club directors have also announced that dance classes will resume on Tuesday the 11th for the children and on Thursday the 13th for adults.  Mus will continue, as it did all summer, on Mondays at 20:30.
