Río Cuarto, Argentina. The “Don Vasko,” beer is a family project led by master beer maker Victor Alberto “Beto,” Mendizabal, with six years in the local history of Rio Cuarto.  Mendizabal assigns its origin to a personal health experiment; and linked its name to his history and that of his father’s. “When I began to feel like industrial beer made me feel bad, I started trying craft beer.  The difference was huge and this gave me the idea to produce my own.  Today I brew some 400 liters a month and I sell it all.”

Mendizabal in a conversation with EuskalKultura.eus explained that he decided to call it “Don Vasko,” to pay tribute to his origins since his paternal grandfather “was from Portugalete, in Bizkaia” and his grandmother, “from Iparralde.”  “My dad told me to spell it with a k to distinguish it in Basque, and that would be our product’s distinctive brand.”

Even if the majority of the “Don Vasko,” production is Red and Golden Ale, he also makes other varieties according to the taste of his clients.  The beer is available in local bars, and is also by ordering directly from the manufacturer from anywhere in the country.
