Sao Paulo, Brazil. Pilar Alava, president of the Eusko Alkartasuna Basque Club in Sao Paulo, told us the news of the death of the last founding member of Eusko Alkartasuna founded in 1959. Amable Martinez-Conde y Elustondo (Barakaldo 1923, Sao Paulo 2021) was 97 years old and was very beloved. “Despite the fact that he has been unable to attend events in person due to his fragile health, he has always kept in touch, helping us throughout all these years,” Pilar says.
The president of the Eusko Alkartasuna Basque Club explained that in 2014 the club celebrated the 55th anniversary of the purchase of its clubhouse and “Amable was honored by us (see photo accompanying this note), for his dedication to our club.” “Like many of his generation he came to Sao Paulo to ‘try his luck.’ He was a member and founder of several industries in Brazil and one of the largest Basque entrepreneurs in the country.” “His last company that he was most proud of was Autometal, the largest in Brazil in its field, which he managed for decades,” Alava concluded.
