The concert will be at the Casal de Catalunya (Catalonian Club) and will allow these Basque musicians from Arrecifes to come back and play for their loyal fans. The newly-formed group “Zutarriak,” will also perform Basque songs, and an opener for Maral.  Without a doubt, music plays an important role at Euskaltzaleak activities that also recently celebrated a successful Triki-poteo that is now becoming a tradition in the neighborhood of San Telmo.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   It’s not easy to hear live Basque music in Argentina.  Concerts in Basque don’t happen every day, but they do happen.  Without going further, next Saturday, September 24 the group Maral, from Arrecifes, will return to Buenos Aires to play a concert that will include a tour of its Basque repertoire.

Invited by the Buenos Aires Euskaltzaleak Basque association, Maral will perform pieces from its album Songs for After Dinner and will perform classics like Lau teilatu, Aitormena and Ikusi mendizaleak, among others.  The group led by Mariana Domine -- former president of the local Basque Club -- won’t be the only one performing since the newly-formed ensemble, Zutarriak will open for Maral to the rhythm of the alboka.

The concert will begin at 8:30pm, at the Casa del Catalunya, Chacabuco 863.  Tickets cost $150, (including beverage) and should be reserved via email: euskaltzaleak@yahoo.com.ar. .  During the concert Euskaltzalea will also have a bar open.

5th Triki-poteo

Facing the cold this winter in Buenos Aires, Euskaltzaleak held its 5th Triki-poteo that brought not only Basque music but also typical Basque atmosphere to the heart of San Telmo.

Musicians, led by trikitilari Ignacio Baña Barquin from Laurak Bat and albokari Ignacio Esquiroz from Euskaltzaleak, left the clubhouse on Bernardo de Irigoyen and made their three traditional stops.  At each, besides having a drink, they also sang and danced.

After the tour, the musicians and companions returned to the clubhouse where the music and dancing continued into the night.  “It was a very special night since in spite of the cold nearly 100 people gathered between students and representatives from other clubs, as well as other Basque youth who are currently studying in Buenos Aires.  There were a lot of reasons to celebrate since the Basque classes now number over one hundred students, a number that reflects consistency,” Teresa de Zavaleta, club president told EuskalKultura.com.
