A group of 30 students from Gasteiz, accompanied by their teachers, have been visiting China this last month on a cultural exchange with their peers at the Pinghe Bilingual School in Shanghai.  During their stay the youth from Vitoria-Gasteiz had direct contact with the Chinese reality of Shanghai, visited the Euskal Etxea there, and also visited with companies and Basque professionals who work and live in the city.

Shanghai, China.   Fifteen students from the Egibide School in Vitoria-Gasteiz, twelve from high school, and one from the Jesus Obrero middle school, and two from the Arriaga middle school, along with two professors have been on a cultural exchange at the Pinghe Bilingual School in Shanghai from April 18-May 1.  During their stay they also visited the Euskal Etxea in Shanghai.

Chinese students from this school had also been in Vitoria-Gasteiz in two groups last year, in February and July, and now the visit was returned to China.  The professors and students, each stayed with a family living the day to day of people in China, according to Basque Government sources.

On this exchange, the students were able to soak up culture, cooking, calligraphy, language, and Chinese art.  They also visited the Sanda Univeristy where they helped with conversation practice with students studying Spanish Philology.  They also had time to visit the Shanghai Euskal Etxea thanks to the Lehendakaritza and got information from companies and Basques working and residing in the city.

It was an enriching experience in all aspects: internationalization, conviviality and culture.  Ties have been strengthened so that more exchanges can take place in the near future, according to the Basque executive.
