Today the institutional trip of a Delegation from the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa that has been on for a week, will come to a close.  The aim of the trip is to strengthen ties between both territories and to promote an agreement of collaboration in various fields, as well as business opportunities.  The Gipuzkoan delegation was led by Iker Goiria, director of External Relations at the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa, and Daniel Arbulu, technician in Foreign Relations.

Valparaiso, Chile.   The delegation from Gipuzkoa has visited Chile over the past week, and the trip will conclude today in Valparaiso with an agenda that includes a meeting with directors of Valparaiso’s Cultural Park, and a meeting at the Technical University Federico Santa Maria, with the head of engineering, science and technology.

This will conclude the five-day trip that the delegation comprised of Iker Goiria, Director of International Relations of the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa, and technician in this area, Daniel Arbulu.  The goal of the trip, according to government sources, is to “introduce Gipuzkoa abroad” and support its economic, social and cultural development strategies.  Chile, due to the opportunities that it provides, is considered as a preferred country in the strategies to internationalize not only the government of Gipuzkoa but the Basque Government as well.

The trip was supported by the Delegation of Euskadi in Chile, with delegate Rafael Kutz, who accompanied the delegation to various activities. Activities were mainly focused in Santiago where the first part of the trip took place, and then on to Valparaiso.  The Gipuzkoan Provincial Government has various agreements in the Valpariso region, signed during a visit a Chilean delegation to Gipuzkoa last May.

Activities

The visit begun last Monday in Santiago with a meeting with Rafael Kutz. Delegate of Euskadi in Chile and Alberto Fernandez, delegate of SPRI in Chile.  The delegation also held meetings with directors of the EuroChile Business Foundation, a private non-profit where they analyzed business and collaborative opportunities between the two territories. That night, the delegation attended a dinner at the Euzko Etxea Basque club in Santiago.

On Tuesday, the Basque delegation held a meeting with Basque companies established in Chile, and afterwards with representatives of the Metropolitan Regional Government of Santiago, the scholarship program for technicians in Chile and the Foreign Investment and Promotion Agency.

On Wednesday, the delegation traveled to Valpariso where they were welcomed by Gabriel Aldoney (Mayor of the Valparaiso Region) to talk about agreements signed between the two entities.  In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Catholic University in Valparaiso who also has an agreement with Tknika.

Yesterday, Goiria and Arbulu were welcomed by Jorge Castro, Mayor of Valparaiso. They talked about various topics like urbanism, planning and heritage; recycling at home, creative culture and industries, among others. That night they attended a dinner hosted by the Chilean Chamber of Construction.
