A book about the RSBAP and the Brotherhood of Aranzazu in Mexico was presented at the Colegio de las Vizcainas in Mexico City

The presentation of the book La Real Sociedad Bascongada and the Vasconovohispano Project of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Aranzazu 1791-1850, by Jesus Hector Trejo Huerta, took place at the Colegio de las Vizcainas.  Representatives of the culture and academic worlds were present, such as the RSBAP, the Jose Maria Basagoiti Archive, ADABI, as well as Mexico City Basque club President, Josu de Garritz, and Delegate of Euskadi, Ibon Mendibelzua. 

Mexico City, Mexico.  We were made aware of the book presentation via the VascosMexico forum coordinated by Jaione Arrieta Galarraga from El BajíoLa Real Sociedad Bascongada and the Vasconovohispano Project of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Aranzazu 1791-1850 by Jesus Hector Trejo Huerta was presented on January 30 in the chapel of San Ignacio de Loyola at the Colegio de las Vizcainas.

The event began at noon. Dr. Stella Gonzalez Ciccero, director of ADABI (Support for the Development of Archives and Libraries in Mexico) emphasized, in her words, the importance of the Historic Archive Jose Maria Basagoiti and its sources that recount the history of the Basque community in Mexico in the 17th and 18th centuries.  Mrs. Isabel Basagoiti referred on her part to the enormous appreciation that her father transmitted to her on the labor of the Bascongada in Mexico and how important it is for the Basque community to know about their roots.

Dr Jose Luis Gonzalez Martinez, representing the National Institute of Anthropology and History, talked about the “Novohispano” project referred to in the book “is proof of the reissue of Basque culture in our country, but that it is always faithful to three basic principles; land, family and relation.”  Following, Dr. Valero reemphasized how important it is for the Basque community to have this historical heritage that covers its history over three centuries and the happy coincidence of the presentation of the work during the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Real Sociedad Bascongada.

Finally, the author J. Hector Trejo Huerta, thanked everyone present and shared special recognition of the works and authors that assisted in the realization of this work.  He also summarized the content and structure of the book and also expressed that he feels that the Basque culture is currently living its best moment, “since various communities are keeping the Basque spirit alive in our country and work tirelessly for it,”  and are “a living sign of the solidarity and rural community that has always characterized its community.”

The event concluded with a toast on the Patio of the Capellanes.
