A Basque film festival will begin at the Corpus Basque club in the remodeled library Atahualpa Yupanqui

Even though it hasn’t been officially inaugurated, the members of the Eusko Etxea in Corpus Christi in the Argentinean province of Misiones, is already enjoying the new facilities in the Atahualpa Yupanqui Library. On Sunday the new reading room will be the place where specialist Carlos Gabilondo will present the film Secretos del Corazon (Secrets of the Heart). This will begin the film festival that will run through the entire year. The Basque club also announced that the Basque Cultural Festival 2013 will take place on July 15th and 21st.

Corpus Christi, Argentina.  The Atahualpa Yupanqui Library at the Corpus Christi Basque club is a great promoter of activities aimed at the entire community.  This is why the need for a suitable and comfortable space was becoming urgent.  Now the dream has become reality and the library is already up and running that also provides a reading room.

The library will be the site for the Basque Film Festival that will begin on June 9 at 17:00.  The first installment will be provided by Carlos Gabilondo who will present Secretors del Corazon by Montxo Armendariz.  We want to remind you that Gabilondo is currently visiting in Misiones and that he is presenting La Pelota Vasca – La piel contra la piedra (Basque Pelota – Skin against Stone) today as part of his tour, and as part of the National University of Misiones 40th Anniversary festivities.

The Atahualpa Yupanqui Library will be officially inaugurated in July as part of the Basque-Argentinean Cultural Festival organized by the Eusko Etxea.

The Corpus Christi Basque festival hopes to gather Basques in the city, and everyone else in the vicinity, to share days some time immersed in Basque culture.  The festival will take place from July 15-21 and will coincide with winter break.  The program is still being finalized and according to what the club told EuskalKultura.com the following activities are expected.

- Monday July 15: 15:00 – Inauguration of the new Atahualpa Yupanqui Library.  The new reading room will also be baptized Guillermo Larregui.  Following the event the award ceremony for the literary contest “Amazing Stories V” will take place.  There will be a performance by the kids who participated in the Basque Culture workshop “Euskotarrak gera gu (We’re Basque).”  Inauguration of the photo exhibit of Basque farmhouses.

- Tuesday July 16: 10:00am.  Walk from the clubhouse to the Curupaytí Camping.  Family picnic. Day of recreation.  Photo, drawing, painting and literary expression contest.  Basque games.

- Wednesday July 17: 15:00. Play by Basque culture workshop participants – a) Read theater “Blanca and her friend the wolf;” b) The world of Mafalda. Recreation.

- Thursday July 18: Dance workshop TBA

- Friday July 19: Cultural talk and video “Gernika, Yesterday and Today” by Professor Cesar Arrondo. Dinner.

- Saturday July 20: 10:00 Film with neighbors.  Cine Express workshop by filmmakers Favio Junco and Julio Midú. Lunch.

- Sunday July 21: 19:00. Showing of the film made at the Cine Express workshop – farewell dinner.

The schedule will be finalized closer to the festival.

May activities

Finally the Basque club old us about events that took place in May.  On the  8th, to celebrate the Day of the Worker, five friends were honored: Antonio Morínigo, Vidal Duarte and Mauro Duarte, representatives of indigenous people; and Eva Carolina López and Carmen Miranda, club members.  Honorees received a diploma at the event and were excited by the children’s participation in the Basque Culture workshop.  They then shared mate.

On May 25 a delegation including Olga Leiciaga, Gladys Ferragut, Carmen Miranda and Eva Carolina López represented the Basque community carrying an Ikurriña in the Gral. Jose de San Martin Plaza, as part of the national holiday.
