Unai Elorriaga will return to Rome in early April, where he will give a talk on his work, sponsored by the publisher Gran Via and the Associazione Culturale Euskara Basque club. Elorriaga has published two of his works in Italy with Gran via, specifically SP-rako tranbia (A Tram to SP) and Vredaman (whose Italian translation was entitled, "Le pianti, per esempio, no bevono caffellatte.”) The Basque association of Rome has changed its program of activities this month so that the author’s visit coincides with the club’s “Basque aperitif” event where he will present an unedited text written expressly for the occasion.

The Lehendakari Patxi Lopez concluded his tour of India last Wednesday, with a reception in New Delhi with the local Basque community. At the event, the Lehendakari expressed his “positive feeling” of the trade mission carried out in this country, with nearly a hundred representatives of Basque companies and institutions. Lopez said he hopes the results of the various meetings and meetings with Indian businessmen and politicians "are concretized in the midterm."

The cultural festival organized by the Eusko Etxea of Corpus Christi, in the Argentinean province of Misiones, has made it its goal to bring Basques together from various places to share their culture with the rest of the community. The event will take place on July 27-29 and even though the program is not finalized, some proposed activities include a nautical event in the Parana River, recreational activities for children and youth as well as gastronomic workshops. The board of directors of the Eusko Etxea invites other clubs, dancers, and musicians to join in and will have information soon regarding available hotels and their costs.

The State Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the State of Idaho has adopted a declaration that welcomes the cessation of ETA’s activity and urges the governments of Spain and France, as well as of Euskadi and Navarre, to "promote dialogue" in order to "achieve a lasting peace.” The proposal has been driven by the Basque community of Idaho, as on previous occasions. The last one, in 2002, created considerable controversy among Spanish authorities; leading prominent members of the Basque community of Idaho to express hope that “this is the last statement of this type” that they will have to support.

Basque singer Maddi Zubeldia will give a concert today in Koldo Mitxelena auditorium in Donostia that can be enjoyed live from anywhere in the world on the internet. Living in Ziburu (Lapurdi) Zubeldia will perform accompanied by musicians Xano Urtxegi and Txomin Arizaga. The recital will take place at 7:30pm, European continental time [6:30 pm in London; 3:30pm in Argentina; 12:30pm in Mexico City; 11:30am in California and 5:30am in Sydney]. This is a great opportunity for many to enjoy the concert from home who would not have been able to attend in person.

From an article in yesterday’s Tandil Diario entitled, “From the Fronton of memories: Frontons of the past that are no more” author Claudio Acevedo revisits several pilota courts as well as adding some from the one built by Mr. Asquet in 1895 to the “old” courts that are still in use today like the Hípico and Southern Railway clubs, the Nahuel Club and the La Florida and the Banco Provincia as well as the Basque club’s fronton. A photo exhibit that was Inaugurated on March 12th, International Women’s Day, at the Euzko Etxea of La Plata entitled, “Women of yesterday and today: They are part of our history,” remains open. In addition to the opening of the exhibit, La Plata chronicled another important activity: organized by the Directorate of Organizations and Municipal Communities, entitled, "Designation of Outstanding Women of the Communities,” which was awarded to a member of Euzko Etxea, Rosa Maria Ibarguren of Macuso.

The Euskal Etxea in Murcia, Spain is celebrating its first decade of life this year with many activities and increased participation. On March 11th the club held its Annual Members Meeting, in which the 2011 activities were reviewed and 2012 projects were announced. Upcoming activities include: a conference on women, a book presentation, a poetic-musical recital, a cooking class as well as continuing Basque classes among others.

The federation of North American Basque clubs (NABO) is organizing two Barnetegis or intensive Basque courses, for current Basque students in various Basque clubs in the US and Canada. One of these will take place in Arantzazu, Gipuzkoa from July 1-15th with the other taking place in New York during the same month. The deadline to enroll in the Basque Country Barnetegi is April 15th. In the case of New York, the Barnetegi will only take place if at least 8 or 9 students show interest.

The Txalamobil is an artistic and musical project that aims to bring the sounds of the txalaparta to the world, thanks to a collective group of artists who formed the so called 'Komando Trini'. Tomorrow, the Trinis will be in Frankfurt with their txalaparta where they will participate in the “Musikmesse Frankfurt,” an instrument and music fair. In addition, they will give a seminar on the txalaparta at the Institut für Vergleichende Irrelevanz (IVI). On Sunday the group will travel to Berlin, where they will perform in the city streets.
