Now you can do so by getting a complete collection of books being raffled by EuskalKultura.com with the cooperation of the Etxepare Basque Institute. It is a Basque culture collection recently published by Etxepare. The winner will receive, at home, the ten volumes published to date. Archeologist Robert Grenier talked on the Basque shipwrecks in Canada at the Quebec Basque club

Robert Grenier during his talk on archeaological remains of Basque whalers (photo QuebecEE) The Quebec’s Basque club, Euskaldunak, organized a talk on October 25 on the archeological remains of Basque whalers left in the 16th century off of the northern coast of Canada. The evening began with the screening of the documentary Apaizac Obeto (Priests better) that tells the story of a group of Basques who recreated the travels of the whalers to Labrador in 2006. After the film, the prestigious archaeologist, Robert Grenier, spoke about the Basque txalupas of that era that have been found, sunken off of the Canadian coast.

More than 50 youth begin FIVU’s Udaleku 2012 today in Uruguay

Photo from a previous edition of FIVU's Udaleku with campers around the campfire (photo Udaleku-EuskalKultura.com) After various postponements (it usually takes place during the summer months, at the beginning of February) the Federation of Basque Institutions in Uruguay (FIVU) will begin Udaleku 2012 today in Minas in the department of Lavalleja. There are a total of 60 participants between youth and instructors, in this event that will take place from today through Sunday the 4 of November. This is the eleventh Udaleku in Uruguay.

The Mendiko Euzko Etxea in Bariloche finalizes the details for its Festival of European-Argentinean Communities

Members of the Mendiko Euzko Etxea work on their booth (photoEE) The Festival of European-Argentinean Communities will take place in Bariloche, Argentinean Patagonia, November 3, 4, 10, and 11. This is the 33 edition and as in past years, the Basque community will be represented by the local Basque club Mendiko Euzko Etxea. According to organizers, along with the Basque representatives, eleven communities will provide attendees dance performances, and typical dishes from each country. Moreover, among the artistic numbers will be a performance by the Municipal Ballet Folklorico “Tolkeyen.” The Festival of Communities will take place on the first two weekends of November at the Danish Club grounds.

The Living Memory Conference at the University of Deusto was the meeting point for returnees from the Diaspora

Organizers and conference presenters (photo Belén Ibarrola/Universidad de Deusto)  The University of Deusto hosted a conference on Emigration and Return on October 19, entitled “Living Memory,” advocating the role and contributions of members of the Diaspora who have returned to the Basque Country. The event was organized as part of the collaboration of the University in Bizkailab and was attended by returned emigrants (first and second generation) historians, and institutional representatives like the Provincial Government of Bizkaia and the Directorate of Relations with Basque Citizens and Collectivities Abroad. According to its organizers the conference is the first step towards the goal of creating “A Virtual Interpretation Center for Bizkaian Emigration.”

A fashion show and tango are among the October activities of the Euskal Odola Basque club in Ayacucho

Images from the latest acitivities organized by Euskal Odola Basque club of Ayacucho, Argentina (photo EE) A large group of people participated in two activities proposed by the Basque club in Ayacucho, in the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires. On the one hand, on October 8, there was a fashion show “Cheerful Spring” designated especially for the city’s youth. On the other, on October 13, uniting two great customs of Argentina and Euskal Herria, there was a dinner with a Tango show. The activities were extremely successful and the Basque club would like to thank everyone who collaborated in the events.

Today begins the last hurrah of the National Basque Week 2012 in Argentina: updated program

Last night, dance groups with musicians from Euskadi and invitees having supper at the Zazpi in Rosario (photo EuskalKultura.com) It has finally arrived; the main weekend of the year as far as FEVA and meetings between members of the Basque community in Argentina is concerned. From now until Sunday Rosario erupts with a full program of activities prepared by the Zazpirak Bat Basque club, who chose to organize this year’s edition of Argentina’s National Basque Week (Semana Nacional Vasca) whose aim is to share with the entire Basque-Argentinean community, the centennial celebration of its founding, and its entrance into a special group of clubs of the same age such as Laurak Bat in Buenos Aires, the Union Vasca in Bahia Blanca, Mexico City’s Basque club, the Euzko Etxea of Santiago, Chile, Montevideo’s Euskal Erria and Euskaro clubs as well as the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea, the Euskal Echea association and the Navarrese Club also in Buenos Aires.

New York’s Euzko Etxea prepares an extensive to celebrate its Centennial during 2013

New Year's Eve celebration at New York's Euzko Etxea in 1940, taken from the Centennial website The oldest Basque club in the US will complete 100 years since its foundation in October of next year, and the Basque community there wants to celebrate this significant date with twelve months of activity. Already posted on the special website dedicated to the Centennial are old photos and current information on activities that the center is carrying out. Additionally, the Basque club has told EuskalKultura.com about some of the main activities that will take place.

The EH Sona! Festival starts in Barcelona tomorrow with 15 concerts to celebrate its 15 years

2012's Euskal Herria Sona! Festival poster The group, Lauroba, will kick off Euskal Herria Sona! Festival this year with a free concert at the Passeig del Born. The festival that is organized by Barcelona’s Euskal Etxea will run till December 1, and for more than a month will bring the latest Basque music to the Catalan capital: Doctor Deseo, Socieda Alkoholika, We are Standard, Lisabö, Ruper Ordorika, Jabier Muguruza...This is the fifteenth edition of the festival that has served as a showcase for Basque music in Catalonia. Due to the success of the festival, the Basque club has now decided to take a leap and serve from now on as a platform for programming and sharing Basque music in Catalan lands.

“Herriz Herri,” by Maral: From town to town, the coming and going between Argentina to the Basque Country

Maral's latest album cover "Herriz herri" Ten songs make up Maral’s fourth album that will be presented the day after tomorrow at the Basque Week in Rosario, Argentina. “The new album seeks to be sung. That’s why, and as always, the generator of the new production is the public,” the musicians from Arrecifes told EuskalKultura.com. The recently published “Herriz herri,” brings ten traditional Basque songs together, updated and rearranged like in the case of the classic “Aitormena,” done reggae style. The album will be released on Friday at 19:30 at the El Circulo in Rosario. The band lead by Mariana Dominé Irigoyen will also perform on Saturday the 27 at the public dance at the end of the evening.
