Edorta Jimenez presented in Berlin the German edition of “Baleen berbaroa”; Basque Day dinner today

The Basque community in the German capital will gather at a dinner what will also serve to close this year’s activities. Last Thursday, the club had a very special invited guest: writer Edorta Jimenez who presented the German translation of Baleen berbaroa (The Whale’s Murmur). The book was published in Germany by Mohland and is called Die Stimmer der Wale.

North Queensland Basque Club, in Australia, is already in Mintzatu.com The Azkue Foundation, following its objective of promoting the use of euskera though the use of new technology, has created the web page Mintzatu.com, with the help of the City Council of Bizkaia and the Basque Government. The site, which has been online for a few days, will be completed with the help of the Basques worldwide, who can include on the map various places in which Basque is spoken. We here at EuskalKultura.com would like to encourage the Basque of the Diaspora to participate, especially students and teachers of euskera classes in the euskal etxeak. The new Cultural Center was inaugurated and the remains of Florencio Constantino rest sheltered by the Ikurriña

The Florencio Constantino Cultural Center was re-inaugurated on November 21 (photo EE) As announced on EuskalKultura.com, an important tribute took place in Bragado, Argentina from November 21-25, to the tenor Florencio Constantino (1889-1919). Among the centennial events of the theater that bears his name, it should be noted that the building was re-inaugurated as a cultural center and that the singer’s remains were relocated to the mausoleum constructed for the occasion. The commemoration, that gathered authorities from the Basque Country and Argentina, involved the entire community. The local Danak Anaiak Basque club was also in involved in the celebration and was one of those in charge of relocating Constantino’s remains that are now sheltered by the Basque and Argentine flags.

International Day of Euskera activities begin in Euskal Herria and the Diaspora

Some events have already begun in the Diaspora as well as the Basque Country as a warm-up for the big day. In Gasteiz nearly 500 people participated in the Mintzodromo at the Artium Museum last Wednesday and in Madrid the Basque Club Euskaltegi celebrated a Bertso-afari, with bertsolaris Uxue Alberdi and Onintza Enbeita. Among these include the last event organized by the club where they paid tribute to two local artists who are of Basque descent. The Basques in Santa Rosa began the farewell to 2012 with music by Lalo Molina Larrazabal and Carlos de Urquiza, a farewell that will continue through December 14 with the presentation of book by a club member. Looking ahead, the club has announced building reforms. Those and other news from the La Pampa club follow in this article.

"Angry Words", the game revolutionizing cell phones, now in Basque

A game of Angry Words in Basque (photo Sustatu.com) The game “Apalabrados” or “Angry Words” presented its Basque version last August and since many Basque users have been hooked on it via their cell phones and Facebook. The application allows playing and interacting with other places on-line and is also available in English, Spanish and Catalan. The creator of “Apalabrados” is Maximo Cavazzani, from Argentina, explains that 25,000 games have already been played in Basque and the community of users continues to grow.

Ekin’s and Eusketxe's headquarters in Buenos Aires will be renamed Lizarraenea in honor of Andres de Irujo

Lizarraenea in Buenos Aires (photo EuskalKultura.com) As the result of a proposal that will enter into force tomorrow November 30, feast of Saint Andrew, the patron saint of the Navbarrese town of Lizarra, the headquarters shared by the publisher Ekin and the Basque Cultural Center, Eusketxe, will be renamed Lizarraenea. The choice of this name was very significant for friends and authorities in both institutions that share the locale on Mexico Street since Andres de Irujo, the founder of this publishing house and Basque culture referent in Argentina was born in Lizarra. The ceremony will take place on December 1 at 9pm in Lizarraenea, at 1880 Mexico Street, Buenos Aires.

Audience members in Bordeaux were moved by “Aita eta Ama maiteak” with testimonies of emigration

Galtxetaburu, Cecile Tison and Mixel Etxekopar during the concert (photo BordeleEE) Bordeaux’s Eskualdunen Biltzarra Basque club experienced a very emotional evening on November 25 thanks to the poetic/musical presentation, “Aita eta Ama maiteak.” The concert was performed by musicians Mixel Etxekopar, Cecile Tison and Jean Christian Gatxetaburu who read passages from letters written by Basque emigrants back home from Argentina set to music. The testimonies, some very raw, but full of feeling and real, made the audience very emotional during the concert.

The program for Basque Week at the Gerora Association in Cordoba The year is almost over but without a doubt the remaining days will be very active, and full of events. On December 3 the International Day of Euskera will be celebrated worldwide, and Basque clubs in Argentina will join in on the celebration with those in the Basque Country and other Diaspora countries as every year. The events are varied but the object is still the same: to support the Basque language. Starting in Argentina we include activities in this article that will take place in Buenos Aires, General Rodriguez, Bahía Blanca, San Nicolas, Arrecifes, Chascomus, La Plata, Rio Cuarto and Córdoba.

The Vice-Ministry of Linguistic Policy’s campaign will run through December 2 The Basque Government’s Vice-Minister of Linguistic Policy has gathered all of the tools available on the internet to work in Basque. Even though some belong to other institutions or organizations, the Vice-Minister of Linguistic Policy has worked to gather and neatly provide all this information. All of the tools will be introduced in a campaign initiated by the Vice-Ministry – among other media on EuskalKultura.com – and will culminate on Sunday December 2.
