This is one of the most important community and cultural tourism festivals in Argentina. As every year, the dantzaris from the Gure Txokoa Basque club in Cordoba will represent the Basque community at the Festival of Communities of Alta Gracia. The event will take place today, February 7th, and is only the beginning of a very active year for the youth in the club that celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. The show will begin at 22:00 and will take place on two stages set up for the show in Alta Gracia in the province of Cordoba in Argentina.

On Monday, February 3rd, the Basque language students of Boise stayed after their weekly lesson at the Basque Museum and practiced singing. They were joined by other boisetarras, some Basque speakers, others not, and all together they learned the Santa Ageda traditional song. The group left the Museum and hit the Basque Block, where they sang the traditional songs to the saint, as it is done in most towns of Euskal Herria. The singers braved the cold weather and created a joyful atmosphere wherever they went.

The Atahualpa Yupanqui Library at the Corpus Christi Basque club in the northern province of Misiones in Argentina has gathered stories featured in the 2012 and 2013 editions of its “Amazing Stories “contest in a new publication. The book entitled, 46 Stories that Amaze was presented at the library in an event that included an artisanal exhibit and a brief session of comic theater. The club announced that it will hold its annual General Assembly in March.

Basques in San Francisco are preparing for a grand festival this weekend of February 15 to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Basque Cultural Center (BCC) and the 50th anniversary of the San Francisco Klika. The list of events includes Basque pilota exhibits, with Euskadi Federation players, live music, dancing and a ceremony for the recipients of the Bizi Emankorra award: Betty Alzugarai, Mary Curutchet and Suzanne Elicetche.

“Le sucedió a un vasco” (It Happened to a Basque) is the title and theme of the international story contest that the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea Basque club in Buenos Aires began in 2012 through its culture subcommittee. The proposal grew from the first edition to the second, a call that gathered more than 60 works. Thanks to its success, the organization has shown its desire to promote a third edition according to sources on December 28th at the 2013 awards ceremony.

The Kotoiaren Lurra Basque club in the Argentinean province of Chaco participated on February 2nd in the 136th anniversary events of the city of Resistencia, its capital city. The club was part of the festivities along with other local communities including the Italian, Greek, Paraguayan, and Croatian. Club representatives took the stage at the Parque 2 de Febrero where the Basque flag flew thanks to standard bearer Iñaki Echarri.

This past January, the city of Rosario, Argentinian, in the province of Sante Fe, was the starting point of the Dakar- one of the toughest rally races recognized worldwide. The test, lasting two weeks, included for the first time a leg in Bolivia and finished in Valparaiso, Chile, where the winners took the stage. Before the start, Basque rider Txomin Arana visited the Basque Club of Rosario and was interviewed for the local radio program "Palabra de Vasco".

The Lehendakari welcomed nearly 100 North American students and workers from USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium) based in Reno, NV who is responsible for bringing nearly 7,250 students to the Basque Country since its inception in 1983, thanks to an agreement with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). USAC has two offices in the Basque Country in Donostia and Bilbao.

On January 24 and 25, the first Genealogy Conference organized by the Antzinako and Family Search associations was held in Bilbao. The event was very well attended and gathered more than one hundred people who attended lectures by experts Amagoia Guezuraga, Iñaki Odriozola and Jon Koldo Fernandez Garcia de Iturrospe. The presentations were recorded and can now be seen on “Ancestors Network” on Youtube.

Prizes included copies of the Joanes comic book, the book Kaliforniakoak, the book Cocina Vasca Campesina and Korrontzi’s 2:1 CD that will now go to the Basque Country, Argentina and the US. 207 people in 13 countries participated by sending an email to this first raffle by EuskalKultura.com this year.
