Barcelona’s Basque club will be the host this weekend of meetings of Basque clubs in Europe and Asia on Saturday, and those in the Spanish State on Sunday. Representatives of clubs in England, China, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, and Australia will attend the mid-congress meeting called by the Basque Government that will also be attended by Marian Elorza, Secretary General of Foreign Action and Asier Vallejo, Director of Basque Communities abroad. Basque clubs in the Spanish State will hold their annual meeting on Sunday.

The Basque Block in Boise, ID will host a series of cultural events during the month of April. The schedule includes a free tour of the Cyrus Jacobs/Uberuaga boarding house, Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction, a talk by author Kurt Koontz, Basque dance lessons and a Berbetan talk about “Surviving Gernika”.

A reading of poems from the anthology book Estellés Euskaraz written by Valencian poet Vicent Andres Estelles, translated from Catalan into Basque by Gerardo Markuleta and published last year in a bilingual edition will take place this afternoon in Valencia, Spain. After presentations in Godela, Burjassot, Lliria, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Durango, the book will be presented now in the capital of Valencia, not just in Basque and Catalan but also in other languages like English, Italian and French. The Basque version will be read by members of the Euskaltzaleok Valentzia Basque club in Quart de Poblet, in Valencia.

Garikoitz Mendizabal’s dream is to introduce the txistu to the world, so his dream is becoming reality, thanks to his album Txistu Symphonic. This work includes traditional pieces adapted to play along with an orchestra and it has already opened doors for concerts in other countries. Those that took place in South Korea, for example, where his five concerts were very well received. “Music has the power to bridge different peoples, and the Basque culture has a lot to offer abroad. I think that this can be done easily and elegantly with a txistu,” he explains.

This marks the fourth anniversary since a group of descendants of people from Navarre in the city of Mar del Plata decided to reestablish a local Navarrese club. During this time, the club has done a lot of hard work to keep moving forward and make their cultural roots known to the entire community. Among the last activities carried out is the participation of club dancers and board members at the “Latin-American Sails 2014” that gathered dozens of sailboats at the south of the continent. Along with this news, the club has also announced its fourth anniversary festivities that will include the presentation of the second number of its magazine.

The Etxepare Basque Institute has published another call for six lecturers to teach Basque language and culture in US and European universities. These openings are as follows: Barcelona – University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona; in Madrid at the UNED; in Berlin at the Freie University; in Brno at the University of Masaryk; in Moscow at the University of Lomonosov; and in California at the University of California, Santa Barbara. For another year, the Basque-Venezuelan residents in the Basque Country will get together in April to celebrate the XIX Annual get-together. The group has been meeting for nearly 20 years, friends and acquaintances from Venezuela. Some of the participants are Basque who emigrated and have returned to the Basque Country and others have been born in Caracas, Carabobo and other communities with a strong Basque presence. The gathering will take place in Galdakao on April 12th and this time the event will have a special tinge due to the situation currently in Venezuela.
