Last Monday, Argentineans celebrated their national holiday of May 25, commemorating the 205th anniversary of the May Revolution. They did so, as every year, with an extended program of activities across the country. The Basque clubs also participated in the festivities and waved the Ikurriña along with the Argentinean flag in each locality. As a sample we have created a photo gallery with images of Arrecifes, Chacabuco, Mar del Plata, Olavarria, San Nicolas, Tandil, Viedma-Patagones and Villa Maria.

Applications are invited for the Basque Fellowship for the academic year 2015-16. The Basque Visiting Fellow will undertake research in any subject related to the Basque Country. Past candidates have been appointed from academically well-qualified modern historians, social scientists, anthropologists and international lawyers specializing in Basque studies. Deadline for applications is Sunday 21 June 2015.

The Collectivity of Navarrese Origin in Argentina: The Navarrese Centers as a Meeting Place is the fruit of research done jointly by specialists at the Public University of Navarre, the National University of Rosario and the University of Buenos Aires. The work was published in 2014 in Navarre and will be presented on June 2 at the College of Political Science at the UNR, with the participation of authors Dr. Sagrario Anaut (PUN) and Mg. Mariana B. Garcia (NUR).

There is no doubt that the Basque flame is kept alive in El Salvador. There aren’t many, but they don’t give up. Next Saturday a bunch of Basques will gather at the Euskal Etxea in San Salvador to watch the Final Copa soccer match between Athletic and Barcelona. Xabier Mirandona is the president of the Basque Club in this Central American country.

Youth in the Diaspora interested in participating in the Gaztemundu program can now begin preparing, since yesterday the Basque Government’s Council approved the 2015 edition. The announcement will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country on June 2, according to sources in the Directorate of the Basque Community Abroad. The application period will last a month, from the day after its publication in the Official Bulletin or July 3.

Performer, Ainara LeGardon, media artists Jaime de los Rios and dancer Eneko Gil will have the opportunity to spend time in Wroclaw on an artistic residency thanks to the call, for the second year in a row, by DSS2016EU and the Etxepare Basque Institute. Their artistic proposals seek to unite Donostia and Wroclaw through sound, Twitter, dance and art.

In hopes of initiating an approach to Basque cinematography, the film series is comprised for four well-known films and four shorts chosen from the “Kimuak” collection. Coordinated by club member, Gorka Eskisabel Bontigi and Professor Carlos Gabilondo, the event will begin on Tuesday June 2 at the Cotesma Cultural Center in San Martin de los Andes and will run for three more Tuesdays.

On May 17, cooks Alex Raij and Eder Montero held the fifth edition of Txikifest, the New York txakoli Fair. About 450 people answered to Txikito restaurant's call to enjoy quality food and this increasingly international Basque wine. The meeting also served as a showroom for the participating wineries. “I always try to put in touch the wineries with distributors, because this is like a showcase,” said Montero to EuskalKultura.com. Once all the expenses are covered, all the money raised will be donated to the association MS Hope for a Cure.

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country published the Resolution of the Director General of HABE that details the grants awarded by this institution, depending on the Ministry of Culture, to Basque clubs and federations courses taught during the year, 2014-2015, totaling 210,000 euros.
