FEVA announced the site for the Winter Barnetegi as well as the rules for the SNV 2015 Euskera contest

The Villa Maria Basque club will be the site for the Winter Barnetegi July 18-25.  Also there, on July 25 and 26, the club will also host teacher training, directed to Basque teachers.  As part of the Argentinan Euskaraz anniversary, FEVA also invites everyone, along with the Euzko Alkartasuna Basque club, to the festivities of the Semana Nacional 2015 in Macachin.  The date for submitting entries is August 31.

116 Basque kids get together in San Francisco to begin on Sunday a new edition of NABO's Udaleku summer camp

Kids all over the US are eager to begin Udaleku 2015 this Sunday, in San Francisco. The Basque Cultural Center will host the NABO summer camp this year, and for the next two weeks these boys and girls will learn more of their Basque heritage through workshops of Euskara, txistu, dance and pilota. Also, they will have a unique chance to meet other young Basque kids from different states, and thus strenghthen the ties among the Basque community. Have fun and ondo ibili!

Upholding commitments in the community’s activity circuit, the Ekin Dantzari Taldea in Buenos Aires represented the Basque Country this time at the local Flea Market Anniversary and the second edition of the Gastronomic Patio in San Fernando.  As well as being the reference for Basque dance, the Eusketxe also provided a dance workshop at the Lagun Onak Basque club in Pergamino.

The Winnemucca Basque Club in search of a bigger venue to celebrate its festivals, after last successful editions

Basques from Winnemucca, Nevada are facing a challenge; but a good one−the Convention Center where they have been celebrating their rendezvouses lately is becoming too small for their festivals Louis Mendiola, president of the Club for the last two years, told EuskalKultura.com. “We wanted to have some wood choppers –he said− but we couldn’t bring any and, in any case, having wood choppers so close to the kids might be a little bit risky. We’re looking to move to a larger venue and I guess that’s a good thing!” Hundreds of people from all over the state attended this year’s festival.

A Basque company, CodeSyntax, creates Tribual, a free game for cell phones with 130,000 questions

A question from Tribual

Tribual is a game of “addictive” questions, according to developers from the Basque Company from Eibar, CodeSyntax, who designed the game.  The first version has been out for some time online as a test, and its users have played more than 300,000 games.  The game includes 130,000 questions and two versions: the improved in Basque, English and Spanish which is available for Android; and the first version for iOS, available in Basque.

Youth from Laprida, Trenque Lauquen and Macachin participated in a dance workshop in Macachin

The dance workshop in Macachin took place on June 13 and 14 (photoEE).

The town of Macachin was the site of a dance workshop organized in collaboration with FEVA and aides from the Union Vasca in Bahia Blanca.  The event was described by its organizers as being “very successful”. Basques in Macachin are eager to host Semana Nacional Vasco Argentina 2015 to be held October 26-November 1.

Euskera is progressing step by step in North American Basque clubs; at the end of May Basque teachers met in Boise

Teaching Basque in North American Basque clubs is advancing little by little and even though the road is long, the first fruits are now becoming evident for HABE and NABO.  Last month, a dozen Basque teachers at North American Basque club met in Boise hailing from San Francisco, Denver, Vancouver, Montreal, New York, Los Angeles and Boise.

The La Plata Basque club once again held its successful Paella Contest this year.  With eight participating groups, seven from the club and one guest, the judges’ decision was not an easy one.  After deliberating the winners were the Catalans.  After the contest the party continues with entertainment by the dantzaris.

The Etxepare Institute will create five new lectureships in Havana, Paris, Illinois, Edinburgh and California

The University of Havana will begin its Basque language and culture lectureship next year

Over the next two years the Etxepare Basque Institute will expand its network of Basque language and culture lectureships in five new universities. During the 2015-2016 academic year, lectureships in Havana, (Cuba), Paris (France) and the University of Illinois (USA) will be opened.  In the next academic year 2016-2017 two more will be opened in Edinburgh and the University of California Los Angeles.

Basques from Ontario, Oregon participated in the America’s Global Village festival to make their culture visible, in a rapidly-changing-society

On Saturday, June 6, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce organized its 16th America’s Global Village festival. A free annual event that celebrates the diversity of the city’s society. Ontario Basque Club was there, “because we are part of this community and we do things for and in the community,” said Lisa Corcostegui, president of the Euskal Etxea, to EuskalKultura.com. And she added: “It’s fun to see other cultures and it’s great exposure for us.”
