Last Friday, July 3rd, Udaleku 2015 ended with a final performance at the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center. During two weeks, 116 kids from all over the US learnt about Basque Culture and overall had a terrific time at the NABO summer camp. Udaleku is an unforgettable experience, not only for the children, but also for their teachers. Eneko Espino, for example, has come over from Gasteiz for the sixth year in a row, to teach txistu to the kids: "It is great to see that they appreciate your work. But the best part is the people I have met. I have felt at home, here at the US".

Andoni Iraola, former captain of Athletic Club de Bilbao signed last Tuesday with New York City FC. Born in Usurbil (Gipuzkoa), Andoni played for Athletic Club de Bilbao for 12 seasons. This coming Sunday July 12th at 3:00 pm Andoni will debut in the match between NYC FC and Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium, and after the match he will take part in a reception with members of the New York Basque Club and the city's Athletic Peña. The Basque Museum and Cultural Center of Boise, Idaho is guilty again. 20 years after the first one, the CD ‘Basque Music of Boise – Volume 2’ is already on sale. Its aims, “capturing the Basque music history of the city,” as Patty Miller, director of the Center, told EuskalKultura.com. The presentation of the album was last July 2nd at the museum and you can already buy and enjoy it at the Museum or when coming to Jaialdi in a couple of weeks.

Begiz Begi, a Basque band from Iparralde, will travel to the US on July 14th, to present its latest album "Joan ihes egin baino lehen" to the Basque Diaspora. They will perform in San Francisco and Chino, and they will also visit Los Banos and Bakersfield to shoot a documentary about the Basques of the US. Music will be the link between Iparralde and California in this documentary, that will debut in the Basque Country in spring.

Wyoming is celebrating its 125th anniversary and, as part of the programs, the state organized, on June 11 and 12, a set of conferences to take a retrospective look at the past, while also looking towards the future. Tens of researchers gathered in the town of Laramie and, amongst them, there were also David Romtvedt, Denice Wheeler, and Iker Saitua, the three of them scholars with a focus on Basque-American history.

Mintzanet is an online, free, system that allows users to practice Basque wherever and whenever they want. With the arrival of summer, directors created a contest to encourage people to continue learning Basque even in the summer months. The contest is open to everyone and is very easy: All you have to do is create a sentence in Basque using the words uda (summer) and Mintzanet and publish it on social media using the hashtag #Mintzauda. The winner will receive a complete set of books on Basque culture from the Etxepare Institute.

This is the first international tour for this choir who will share this experience with the local vocal group Surcanto. The Gure Etxea Basque club choir will do the first part of its repertoire in Basque and will also perform the “Misa Criolla,” along with members of Surcanta.

‘Black and white and red all over’ is the name of Christine Iriarte Niswonger’s last artwork series, and it’s being exhibited in Henderson, Nevada’s −20 minutes south of Las Vegas− at the City Light Art Gallery, through July 7. The exhibition combines meaningful etchings of newspapers, typographic details, and photos. “I want to make people aware and skeptical about what they read and see in the news,” the artist, and former journalist told EuskalKultura.com.

Eusko Ikaskuntza-Iparralde and the Ezmugak Association in Irun invite Basque artists to reflect on he Diaspora and create new works inspired by this theme. Submissions must be received by September 15, and 25 of these will be chosen for the traveling exhibit, “Art and Basque Diaspora” that will begin in 2016. The exhibit will begin at the Basque Museum in Baiona and then will travel to various Basque localities.
