A book with testimonies of immigrants published by the Argentinean Government includes Basque Aitor Alava's one

The National Directorate of Migration presented the book Nosotros, los que vinieron (We who came) on September 4 at an event as part of the Day of Immigrant festivities.  The book compiles testimonies of immigrants from various parts of the world, who now reside in Argentina. The second edition of the collection includes Aitor Alava, dantzari and dance professor from Araba who has been in Buenos Aires for the last eight years.  The book is available online.

Try Ipuintxo, an app of inteactive Basque stories for children to play and learn

“Sorgin txikia” is one of the interactive stories available on the “Ipuintxo” app

“Sorgin txiki,” “Galtzagorri aztia,” “Basajaunen sukaldea,” “Marigorringoren abenturak”…are some of the children’s stories in Basque available on the free Ipuintxo app for smartphones.  Many stories and adventures in Basque with traditional Basque mythological figures, but told in as an interactive story where the children can engage.

Ibaiko Izarra at the inaguruation of the Provincial Immigrant Festival

The activities for the Day of the Immigrant are one of the main annual activities for the dantzaris of the Gazte Lurra group in Concordia, in the Argentinean province of Entre Rios.  They participate in all of the events representing the Basque community with their dances.  Now, after having participated in the “Previous to the Immigrant,” and the Torch March, they will perform at the Festival of the Immigrant this weekend.

Upload your videos in Basque and you can win 500 Euros in ETB’s “Youtuberrak” contest

Euskal Telebista (ETB) has launched the “Youtuberrak” contest and has invited anyone interested to participate.  All you have to do is upload your videos in Basque creating a YouTube channel and publish your videos there.  Every month, the best video will be awarded 500 Euros, and at the end of the year the best channel will win a 2,000 Euro prize.  We spoke to ETB and they confirmed that the contest is also open to people in the Diaspora.  It worths a try... Why not? Are!

Great participation by the Aurrera Basque club from Baradero at the city’s 400th anniversary festivities

The Baradero Basque club doesn’t currently have a lot going on, nevertheless, the number of Basque descendants in the area is elevated and the Basque community wanted to be present and record its legacy in the city as part of the 400th anniversary.  That is why, as part of the celebration, the Basque club presented the book Our Grandparents, planted a sapling and left a message for future generations.

Sabino Laucirica, Basque researcher from Plentzia, was recently awarded the Heritage Awards in the town of Placentia in Canada for his work on the dissemination and implementation of historic heritage of the capital of Newfoundland during the times of Basque whalers.  “The heritage of Placentia is really our heritage, it was left by Basques,” he says.

“Soka” a new multimedia exhibit on Basque dance, will be inaugurated this week in Biarritz

The traveling exhibit “Soka” will begin its tour this Thursday in Biarritz

Anyone who attended Jaialdi in Boise were able to have a glance of the “Soka” exhibit at the Basque Museum.  Now, Euskal Kultura Erakundiea will inaugurate the complete exhibit (150 square meters) in Biarritz.  It is a multimedia view into the world of Basque dance with more than 400 illustrations (iconographic sources, interview excerpts, sound extracts, and archive images), as well as video creations on aesthetics or even the social aspect of dance

Basque ilustrator Elena Odriozola wins the Golde Apple award at the Biennial of Illustrations in Bratislava

The illustrator Elena Odriozola (Donostia-San Sebastian, 1967) will receive today a Golden Apple Award at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (Slovakia) for the work she created for Mary Shelley´s 'Frankenstein' (Nordika Books, 2013). The nomination for the award was presented by Galtzagorri Elkartea, through the OEPLI.

Iñaki Goikoetxea Arrufat is passionate about mountains and nature.  Committed to his surroundings in his native Irun, he was an instrumental member of the Betti-Gotti Association and today is a communications tech in the Counsel of Youth in Euskadi.  This summer we met at Jaialdi in Boise where we made a date to get together in September.

The Etxepare Basque Institute is looking for a Basque Language and Culture lecturer for the University of Helsinki

University of Helsinki Campus

The Etxepare Basque Institute is looking for a lecturer to teach Basque language and culture courses in the Finnish capital.  The call for the position was published yesterday in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV) and the deadline to apply is now for ten days.  The lecturer who is chosen will be expected to teach four hours a week, and the budget for this position is 5,600 Euros.
