The Cultural and Charitable Association Euskal Echea in Argentina has two headquarters, one in the capital city and the other in Llavallol. Both held their annual Basque celebration, at the beginning of spring (September-October), each with different dates and programs. This year, both celebrations did share the same theme the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika.

The Graduate Center at the City University of New York (CUNY) has organized a symposium on Cultural Policy on Friday, October 20th, with invited guest, Garbiñe Iztueta, Director for the Promotion and Diffusion of Euskera at the Etxepare Basque Institute. She will be presenting along with representatives from Argentina, Chile, Catalonia, Galicia and the Basque Country irself.

The Government of Navarre has begun a study about the most recent Navarrese Diaspora which aims, on the one hand, to carry identifying and contacting them to generate channels with this new emigrant profile that is composed, to a large extent, of highly qualified young people. The project was presented to the embers of the Executive by the Minister of Citizen and Institutional Relations, Ana Ollo Hualde, during a government session held on Wednesday.

Anyone who is on the beaches of Orio and Zarautz on summer surely remember these youth from the Pampa settled on the Gipuzkoan Basque coast, who create bridges between both sides of the ocean and are the fruit of the Basque Diaspora. They are members of a family, the Irazustas, whose echoes sound as much here as there. The magazine Karkara in Orio interview Ainoa Irazusta, in these lines by Iñigo Gaiton.

The Azkue Foundation has renovated the Blogetan.eus portal in order to make it a reference for Basque language bloggers. The portal automatically gathers contents from blogs in Euskera and orders them chronologically and categorically. There are four main characteristics: an archive of Basque bloggers, offers personalized content, become a data base of Basque bloggers as well as providing space for the Blogetan contest. Basque musicians who are coming to Argentina to perform at Semana Nacional Vasca in San Nicolas will warm up on the weekend before at a concert organized by the Euskaltzaleak Euskaltegi. The event will take place on Sunday November 5 at 6pm at the Campustellae Cultural Center along with Basques arriving from Euskal Herria Michel Etcheverry, Mikel Urdangarin and Xabaltx who will also perform with Basque-Argentine groups, Zutarriak and De a Dos.

The initial agreement was put in place several years ago, but according to the recent renewal both institutions have included new objectives in the agreement including that the Euskal Etxea will be the site of workshops organized by the University and that parallel, the University will open its doors to the club’s cultural activities. In other business, Gure Ametza also anticipates the inauguration of a replica of Picasso’s “Guernica” by the end of October at its clubhouse.

Those that went on the trip to Euskal Herria in 2017 organized by Mariana Dominé Irigoyen returned saying “it was a marvelous experience,” and so the referent of the Euskaldunak Denak Bat Basque Club in Arrecifes is already preparing another tour for the coming year. In 2018, the departure will also be in August with an itinerary that includes significant places all over the country, with airfare, hotel and guided tours included. Anyone interested can already reserve their spots.

Organized by Eusketxe in Buenos Aires, the contest is aimed at Basque students of all levels in two categories: short stories and videos of small plays in Basque. The deadline to submit entries is October 31 and prizes include books in Euskera, certificates and special mentions that will be presented to the winners at the Basque club’s International Euskera Day festivities.

The Eusko Alaia Choir of the Eusko Biltzar Basque Club has a varied repertoire of songs in Basque and Spanish. Directed by Ana Sassoni, the group participated in the international choral event, “Coraliada,” being the only Basque choir there. Along with this, the Euskal Etxea in Coronel Pringles, also expressed its satisfaction with its queen candidate, Lucia Angladette, begin chosen the First Princess of Collectivities 2017-2018.
