The “Patagoniarantz” Program (To Patagonia) hopes to strengthen the Basque culture, especially Euskera, in Patagonia, thanks to visitors from the Basque Country who come to the region wanting to participate in the activities at local clubs.  This first Barnetegi took place in San Antonio Este coordinated by teacher Xabier Lasa from Tolosa, Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country and local teacher, Rocio Basterra.

Semana Vasca, The Basque Argentine Nationak Week 2017 concludes successfully in San Nicolas

The excitement of celebrating the Basque culture and its vitality in Euskal Herria and the diaspora impregnated the streets and the daily life last week in San Nicolas de los Arroyos, just 250 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires.  With special intensity on the weekend, Basques and their descendants coming from all over Argentina and neighboring Uruguay, Brazil and Chile enjoyed the excellent local organizations.  Beginning tomorrow, photo chronicle of the event on EuskalKultura.com.

Led by Lehendakari Urkullu, the Basque Government’s Advisory Board for Foreign Action met last Tuesday in Vitoria-Gasteiz to analyze the contributions received in view of the update of the Euskadi Basque Country 2020 Strategy.  Remember that appointed for that purpose - as well as the Advisory Board of the Basque Communities Abroad - is Arantxa Anitua, President of Laurak Bat Basque Club in Buenos Aires and FEVA’s vice-president.

The activities at Euskal Astea (Basque Week) began on Monday with the inauguration of art exhibits, photos and Euskera.  During the week there was Basque film with Carlos Gabilondo, talks and yesterday club cooks from the Euzkal Etxea prepared lunch for 300 students as part of the 15th anniversary festivities of the their Etxe Nasaia Program.  See the photos of what has taken place to date along with the weekend’s program.  Join in the fun in San Nicolas!

The Federation of Basque Clubs in Venezuela organized the 3rd Days of Basque-Venezuelan Fraternization

The Federation of Basque clubs invites members of clubs across the country to participate in the Third Says of Basque-Venezuelan Fraternization that will take place in two weeks on November 24-26 in Chichiriviche, Falcon State.  The event runs the entire weekend, Friday to Sunday.  Eligible participants have to be current members of a Basque club, as indicated in the Jazoera newsletter.

Every year, on December 3rd on the International Day of Euskera - Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna the award based on its initials ENE is awarded in hopes of recognizing the work of groups and entities engaged in the Basque Diaspora in favor of the Basque language, its instruction, use, or promotion.  If you are aware of such an organization or group, you should nominate them by next Wednesday.

In Uruguay, FIVU’s 2017 Udaleku focused on traditional Basque instruments

The event organized annually by the Federation of Basque Institutions in Uruguay (FIVU) this year included instruction on Basque traditional instruments.  The workshops were taught by Haize Hegoa club member, Agustin Trigo Sarraute, who attended the Gaztemundu Program in the Basque Country this September that also focused on instruments. The Uruguayan Udaleku was held on the beaches of the Departments of Canelones and was also an excellent opportunity to delve into Euskera.

17 Basque teachers at European Basque clubs gathered in Bordeaux at the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year

This is the usual meeting that takes place at the beginning of the school year, when Basque teachers from Basque clubs in various European countries suggest topics and issues, share and discuss their experiences, as well as update their materials and information to make their teaching better. That is what they did again, when 17 teachers from clubs in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Valencia, Bordeaux, Rome, Valladolid, Pau and London gathered for the weekend at the hosting club in Bordeaux.

Basque presence at the 38th Festival of European-Argentine Communities in Bariloche

The 38th edition of the Festival of European-Argentine Communities in Bariloche, in the Andes Mountain area, also includes a large Basque presence.  The Mendiko Eusko Etxea didn’t only have a food stand, but also performed on stage where they performed a suite based on the Xiberoko Maskarada, and included the participation of all of the club’s dance groups.

The third conference on the Basque-Navarrese Presence in Mexico and Central America on Thursday in Mexico City

Organized by the Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País in Mexico and the Historic Archive José María Basagoiti Noriega at the College of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, better known as the College of the Vizcainas, the third International Conference “The Basque-Navarrese Presence in Mexico and Central America 16th-21st Centuries,” will begin on Thursday, November 9th in the Chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola at this 250 years old Basque-Mexican Institution.
