Co-organized by the Parisian association “Navarra Siempre,” the Cultural Week took place on Saturday and Sunday, November 18-19, and on Saturday, November 25, with another event planned for Saturday, December 9th; there, the religious, Pedro Meca Zuazu, originally from Villava who passed away in 2015, and a well-known figure in Paris as “the chaplain of the vagabonds in Paris,” will be honored for his commitment and solidarity with the most disadvantaged.

Xabier Lasa, Basque teacher from Tolosa, will be in charge of teaching this seminar in two sessions, on Tuesday and Thursday this week at the University. The event is being developed as part of the Patagoniarantz Program that was recently created by Basque clubs in Patagonia. As part of this program, Lasa will also give a talk on Basque culture this Wednesday the 22nd at the Alberdi Cultural Center in the city of Neuquen. Both activities are free and open to the public.

Before saying good-bye for the last time, the community enjoyed a wonderful show of Basque and Argentine dances, and the local community, taking advantage of the beautiful weather, went to the Mitre Plaza. After the traditional lunch, all that was left was to say “goodbye” and so that’s what club president, Damian Cebey did. In his words, Cebey also announced that Semana Nacional Vasca 2018 will be in Mar del Plata. Today in EuskalKultura.com, the last chronicle of SNVSN 2017.

Five hundred four books, articles and works in Basque, Spanish, Franch and English by Intxausti (Segura, Gipuzkoa, 1934) have now been digitized and made available online. Including basic resources and references in relation to the social history of Euskera and the religious history of Euskal Herria. The terminology is also a field that has received important contributions from this honorary member of Euskaltzaindia since 1004. Sixty years of work that continues since Intxausti continues his relevant research today, without retiring.

The director of sports of the Province of Buenos Aires, Aires Gabriel Lunz, along with council member of the Concejo Deliberante of Necochea, Graciana Maizzani from Cambiemos visited the headquarters and sport facilities of Euzko Etxea in Necochea.

Some 30 dance groups participated in Saturday night’s performance at Euskal Astea, Semana Vasca 2017. The show was divided into two parts; the first dedicated to traditional dances, while the second included more modern choreographies. An exception was made this year as a gesture of showing the Basque Diaspora’s solidarity with Catalonia, with the dance group from the Casal del Paîsos Catalans from La Plata also being part of the show.

The main show at Euskal Astea, Semana Nacional took place on Saturday night at the Municipal Theater in San Nicolas. As something new, that was very well-received, was the new presentation of the dances that was interlaced, so that each group immediately followed the other. Saturday activities began in the morning with the usual meetings, visit from Basque Government Authorities, film, Tamborrada and the traditional Kalejira to the theater.

As every year at this time, Topagunea is preparing another edition of Laburbira, putting together another list of Basque short films produced in Basque and organizing screenings in the Basque Country as well as in the Diaspora. Two requests are going out, the first for those who have produced a short film in Euskera so that their title can be included, and another one to the Basque clubs who would like to participate in this year’s screenings.

Euskadi strengthens ties with Canada in order to support the cultural links that go back 500 years, with the arrival of the first Basque whalers to the area of Red Bay. Whale hunters from the entire Basque coast made Europe and American history in an activity that is slowly discovering and recovering what has served to spur new links between the current inhabitants of both territories. Basques from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil and Euskal Herria gathered in San Nicolas for its Semana Nacional and mad Euskera resonate strongly, not only in the Mintzodromo activity, but also in the street, the theater…The days leading up to the weekend were intense, but the gathering of Basque speakers on Friday started off the largest attended events.
