The Chino Basque Club, located in the greater Los Angeles area, will celebrate its 50th anniversary tomorrow and will do so including cultural events after inviting its members and friends to participate in an ambitious “oral history” project and the recompilation of its rich past that it has been working on over the last years. Presentations and talks by Mitch Gariador, Jeanette Bidart, and Marianna Etcheverria will accompany dinner and performances by Gauden Bat and Noka.

The Eusko Kultur Etxea-Eusketxe just announced this year’s Basque classes. This Basque cultural center led by Maria Elena Etcheverry proposes a variety of levels and times for its courses; the majority will take place one a week for three hours at Mexico 1880 in the capital city. In a conversation with EuskalKutlura.com, Etcheverry invites everyone to visit their blog.

The city of Mar del Plata will be the site October 29-November 4 of 2018 Semana Nacional Vasca, and its hosting club, Denak Bat, has also announced a contest to design the event’s logo. The deadline to submit artwork is May 31st for a cash prize. The delegation from Mar del Plata was received last March in Vitoria-Gasteiz at the Lehendakaritza and presented Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, director of the Basque Community Abroad, an invitation for Lehendakari Urkullu to attend the event.

Even if the celebration took place on Easter Sunday, the Mendiko Euzko Etxea in Bariloche will hold its Aberri Eguna celebration on April 7th. The ceremony will begin on the “Paseo de las Colectividades” and will continue at the clubhouse where there will be lunch and activities all afternoon long. Along with this invitation, the club also tells us about the visit by the children at the “Kailen” school to their clubhouse.

In reality the club and NABO, in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute, only require mastery of the Basque language, to which each applicant can then add his/her own curriculum. Once chosen the individual will receive training applied to the specific job in Bakersfield, some two hours north of Los Angeles.

The University of Nevada, Reno is looking for someone to fill the position of Library Technician at the Jon Bilbao Basque Library. This requires a degree and at least three years experience, among other requirements. The chosen individual would be responsible for managing circulation of materials, assisting users with library and online resources, developing metadata for digital items and uncatalogued books, and maintaining files for digital images and audio/video recordings. Interested persons should contact the University as soon as possible.

We read about this a few days ago on Eitb.com “A time-lapse on the border with Iparralde that won awards in Dubai.” Iñaki Tejerina, an engineer in Pamplona who is fond of photography was awarded for these spectacular time-lapse images of the border between Navarre and Iparralde.” It is a very impress video that we are now sharing with our readers.

Askatasunaren Bidea in San Miguel, in the province of Buenos Aires, published its 2018 program of activities, with new items like the talk that Horacio Marotto will give on April 7th, “Navarrum: 2000 years of Navarrese documents about Euskera,” from the Government of Navarre. The group will inaugurate its Mus Workshop tomorrow that will run throughout the year. In April their Basque and Culture classes will also resume.

Learn more about these cultures through play is the slogan that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is using, along with its Basque and Catalan lecturers, supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Ramon Llull Institute respectively, to invite everybody this Wednesday, to learn more about these languages and cultures.
