The preparation and sale of food is an initiative that many Basque clubs in Argentina participate in to raise money. In Santa Rosa, the next event will be on Sunday, June 10th and the menu will include “Basque lentils.” In this way, the Santa Rosa Basque club is getting ready for the second half of the year that will include a big community festival at the provincial level, and the celebration of the club’s 26th anniversary, among other activities.

There are just two year until Jaialdi 2020 in Boise, but the organizational machine of what is said to be the largest Basque festival outside of the Basque Country, is already on it. Jaialdi just opened the call for applications from artists and groups from the Basque Country who would like to participate whether they be musicians, dantzaris, singers, or any other kind of artist. Who knows if another initiative from somewhere else in the Diaspora would be a good fit? The deadline to apply is September 15th.

The victory in theU21 category is added to the recently achieved U15 win and the mini at this same competition. Remember that the Euzko Etxea in Necochea has a number of sports activities including basketball, with boys and girls teams, organized by age, and participates in tournaments both locally and regionally.

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (EHAA-BOPV) this week included the resolution from HABE that details grants that this organization, part of the Department of Culture, has dispersed funds to Basque clubs and federation to support Basque instruction during the 2017-2018 year. The total was 233,990 Euros distributed to 30 clubs in Australia, Germany, Cuba, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Canada, France, Colombia and the United States.

The Euskal Sustraiak Basque Club in Trenque Lauquen celebrated its 20th birthday at the main hall of the clubhouse. The hosts provided an excellent dinner that included tributes to its founders, and lifetime members, as well as to Basque teachers, and dancing. Between toasts and emotions, the party ended at dawn.

Reality confirms that Basque is a language available to anyone “wishing to learn another language,” Karlos Cid Abasolo says, professor of Basque Philology at Complutense University in Madrid, at a dinner conference about “The Myth of the Difficulty of Euskera” held on May 23rd. EuskalEtxeak.net continues to grow, little by Little, but at a constant rate. Its Diaspora Archive receives contributions from so many Basque clubs and Basque communities as well as individuals, guaranteeing that they aren’t lost, but preserved and can be accessed online from all over the world. EuskalEtxeak.net has also publicized its gratitude to everyone who has contributed. Will you send your photos?

As part of the May 25th celebrations, Eusko Kultur Etxea invites everyone to listen to a reference of Argentine folklore, and club friend, Silvia Iriondo. The recital will allow the songwriter not only to explore her repertoire, but also to perform numbers from her latest work. The event will be at 8pm at the Eusketxe with a requested admission/donation of $200.

The Euskel Biotza Basque Club in Roldan carried out its General Assembly last Saturday and included board elections as per the club’s statutes, among other things. The new board will now serve for the next two years and is comprised of the following individuals.

May 25th is a holiday in Argentina. Parades, events, mass and gatherings commemorating the Revolution of 1810 are organized in various formats but always with the same fervor. The Basque clubs that transmit both the Basque culture and the local one, always guarantee the presence of the Basque community at the festivities.
