The Basque Government’s council gave the green light this morning to the 2018 call for Basque club, federation, and confederation grants. This year’s budget totals 902,306 Euros. In yesterday’s edition of the BOPV-EHAA the Resolution dated June 6, 2018 from the Secretary General of Foreign Action for “the 2018 grants to Basque clubs for individuals in situations of extreme need residing in the Basque communities abroad.” The application period begins today and the deadline to apply is July 18th.

The San Nicolas Basque Club, led by Ana Maria Erausquin, invited two new schools as part of its charitable programs. On June 12th, they welcomed 60 students and five chaperones from Elementary School #40 who learned about Basque music, dance and customs and then enjoyed a traditional chicken paella prepared by the club cooks. The event took place on June 11th, on the anniversary date, presided by the city’s deputy mayor, Diego Santilli, and the president of the Juan de Garay Basque-Argentine Foundation, Diego Ibarbia. Besides addressing those present, the authorities both laid wreaths at the monument dedicated to the founder, Juan de Garay, while the Auxiliary Bishop, Joaquin Sucunza, said a prayer.

The sixth edition of the popular Paella Contest at the Euzko Etxea Basque Club took place on June 8th with 10 groups competing, specifically Library, Mus, Catalans, Ceva, Dantzaris, Soccer for the Blind, Zaharrak, Pilota, Xare, and Euskera. Gaztemundu is a Basque Government program that provides the opportunity for youth from Basque clubs around the world to travel to Euskal Herria and participated in a course, and training experience for two weeks. This year’s theme is traditional Basque dance with the deadline to apply being June 18th. Remember that this is an official process and the deadline is firm, so those who have not applied yet should harry up if they don´t want to miss their opportunity to take part.
