Boise 'Ahizpak,' an art & design company is 'Artist of July' at the Elko Northeastern Nevada Museum July's Artists of the Month at the Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko is 'Ahizpak' (sisters). Sisters Maite Iribarren-Gorrindo and Izar Bicandi started a business and they called it  Ahizpak, meaning "sisters" in Basque. The Basque Government approves the appointment of Jorge Fernandez Quintela as the new delegate in the United States

Urkullu and his wife in New York along with Marian Elorza, Secretary General of Foreign Action and Ander Caballero, former Delegate of Euskadi in the US (photoEuskalKultura.com) The Governing Council of the Basque Executive approved the appointment of Jorge Fernandez Quintela as the new Delegate of Euskadi in the US at its meeting this morning.  Fernandez will now replace Ander Caballero Barturen, who had served in this capacity until recently.

The city of Chacabuco recognizes the Guillermo Larregui Basque Club on its 29th anniversary

Club president, Bernardo Indaburu receiving the gift The event was held last Wednesday taking advantage of the holiday in Argentina, June 20th or Flag Day.  The Guillermo Larregui Basque Club celebrated its birthday on this day. Some 160 guests not only enjoyed an excellent menu, but also dance performances by the adults with “Sorgin Dantza,” and the txikis also received warm applause.

Resounding success of the first Basque Fest: the new Basque Festival has been well established in New London, Connecticut

It was the first Basque Festival held in New London, and it passed with straight As. The pilota final between Milton Cayoja Apaza (Bolivia) and Nicolás Alberto Comas (Argentina). The gold went to the local player (photo, official page of the Games)

The XI edition of the South American Games in Cochabamba, Bolivia enjoyed the participation of 14 countries competing in 35 sports.  Pilota matches included representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, presented the high level of the sport in the region.

Successful screening of “Handia,” at the Hiru Erreka Basque Club in Tres Arroyos, who announced its San Fermin celebration

After the film, the club provided refreshments Basque film is an excellent way of transmitting culture, history and the language of Euskal Herria.  So, the team at Hiru Erreka Basque Club took advantage of the award-winning film by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño. Some 30 people attended the even at the club and enjoyed the film and something to eat provided by the hosting club.

After months of preparations, the moment finally arrived for the first Basque Fest in the city of New London, CT, organized by the New England Basque Club.  On Friday, the warm up activity was a trikipoteo, the first in the history of New London.  We arrived that morning, came upon club members working on the last preparations.  That afternoon, we enjoyed the great atmosphere and the successful trikipoteo.  Video and images.

The library at the Euskal Etxea in Paris holds 2, 250 titles in Euskera or about Basque topics available to the public

Partial look at the library at the Euskal Etxea in Paris (photo EuskalKultura.com) The Pariseko Euskal Etxea has had a library for years specialized in Basque topics and works in Euskera that are available to the public.  They total 2, 250 titles, of which 1,400 are books in Euskera, 240 in French, 300 in Spanish, and 310 in other languages.  Genres range from novels to poetry, theater to essays, including books on history or children’s literature.  The catalog can be accessed ...
