Paris, France. The 33rd Navarrese Cultural Week in Paris began last Saturday and will conclude next weekend in the capital city.  On Saturday, Ana Ollo, Minister of Relations with the Citizenship of the Government of Navarre, gave a talk on the Uriz Pi sisters who were ahead of their time and pioneers in the defense of freedom, equality and the rights of women since the early twentieth century, in various periods such as the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the Republic, the Civil War and later in exile.

Josefa and Elisa Uriz Pi were from Navarre born in Badoztain (Eguesibar-Egüés Valley) and Tafalla respectively, teachers, pedagogues, committed women with a secular education and equal opportunities.  Members of the Communist Party, they dedicated their entire lives to their commitment to the feminist cause, solidarity and defense of the rights of children and women both in Madrid and especially in Catalonia, and later in exile, both in France and finally in Berlin.

The Navarrese Cultural Week in Paris is an annual event organized by the local “Always Navarre” Association, thanks to the APFEEF (the Association of Parents of Spanish Families in France). This Saturday, the week began with Ollo’s talk, and concluded with a recital by Marta Domingo and a tasting of Navarrese products.  Next Sunday, there will be a meal with entertainment provided by Alegria Flamenca and Michel. The event will conclude next Saturday, November 23rd with a talk by professor of Spanish Language and literature and Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Education of the Embassy of Spain, Isidroro Pisonero del Amo entitled, “La Celestina, Don Juan and Don Quijote: Hispanic Classics and Myths of Universal Literature.”
