It’s not easy in a city like New York to keep a dance group going, however, they are stubborn Basques that try it very hard. They try their best to be at all of the New York main Basque club functions. Anna Mary Aguirre, a native New Yorker, has spent a lot of hours and effort in teaching the club’s youth how to dance.
The New York dancers have a long history. They also have had txistularis and other musicians as both Juan Oñatibia as well as Anjel Viña have lived there. The first time that they traveled to a NABO convention was in 1995 when it coincided with Boise’s Jaialdi representing New York’s Basque club. Some of the elders would remember that 36 years earlier they traveled to Reno-Sparks for the first National Basque Festival where Oñatibia represented the Basque government.
