Translator and poet, Gerardo Markuleta and musician Jabier Muguruza will be at the Expolangues Fair in Paris thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Azkue Foundation.  In the morning they will give a poetry and musical recital called “Zoopoemes,” that will be repeated in the afternoon at an event organized by the Sorbonne University Nouvelle III by the Basque language and culture lecturer also sponsored by the Etxepare Institute.

Paris, France.  As in previous editions, this year Euskera again has a special place at the Expolangues Language Fair in Paris, thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute, in collaboration with the Azkue Foundation.  This presence will be focused at a stand that has been sharing information, since yesterday, on Basque and methods and resources for learning it.

There are also a series of cultural events at the stand as well that will begin today with a poetry and music recital by poet and translator, Gerardo Markuleta, and musician, Jabier Muguruza.  It will take place at 10:30 in the La Scene room at the Fair.  The show entitled “Zoopoemes” will include Markuleta reciting poems in Basque or translated into Basque, accompanied by Muguruza on the accordion.

In the afternoon, they will perform the same show again, this time at the University Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III.  This will take place at 5pm, organized by the Etxepare Basque language and culture lecturer at this center.  The event will also include the participation of Catalan professors (H. Badell), Spanish (M. Espinosa) and Portuguese (E. Souto) from the university and professors from the CEGA (Centre d’Etudes Galiciennes de Paris), who will read poems in their respective languages.

Tomorrow a roundtable will take place, “Minority Language – Virtual Language” where the effect of the digital revolution on minority languages will be debated, especially on Basque and Catalan.  Those participating include Andreu Bosch (Institut Ramon Llull), Josune Ariztondo (Azkue Foundation,) Pello Salaburu (Euskaltzaindia) and Aizpea Goenaga (Etxepare Basque Instittue).  The event will begin at 3pm at the Fair.
