Visiting Chacabuco, the Technical Director of the Boca Juniors gave a talk to members and friends at the local Basque club.  During the talk, and even if the topic was central, Arruabarrena didn’t just talk about soccer but also made reference to his roots, highlighting that he has a Basque last name on his mother’s side as well, Aristegui.  Those passionate about soccer from neighboring Basque clubs also attended the talk coming from Junin and Pergamino.

Chacabuco, Argentina.  On November 30 an event took place at the Guillermo Larregui Basque club that its members describe as “historic and unforgettable.”  During a visit that Rodolfo Arruabarrena made to the city, the technical director of the Boca Juniors gave a talk at the club. As explained to EuskalKultura.com by club president, Pablo Pavesa, “Arruabarrena traveled to Chacabuco to attend a dinner organized by the “Peña #12” and he took advantage of his stay to visit us, as we wanted have him as our guest at our club.”

With this goal in mind, the club’s board of directors, members of the dance groups and muslaris welcomed the Technical Director. Members of the Alaia dance group performed an Agurra and afterwards presented him with Basque presents “so that he would have a nice souvenir of his visit to the club,” club sources said.

The talk was attended by a good number of people and focused mainly on Arruabarrena’s role as technical director for the team.  Nevertheless, the former player also made reference to his Basque roots, saying that “Many Basques that I have met are very stubborn lke me,” he also said that his Basque roots also come from his mother’s side as her last name is Aristegui.  He also said that his parents frequently go to the Basque club in his hometown in Marcos Paz.

Also participating at the event was former pilot TC Roberto “Tito” Urretavizcaya.  As Pavesa explained, “he is a great reference for the city and the community, and that is why we also wanted to invite him.”  The club also let us know that also accompanying Arruabarrena were Rodolfo “Royco” Ferrari, vice-presidential candidate on the list Daniel Angelici, for the upcoming club elections; Gustavo Roberti, trainer for the first division; and the president of “Peña #12” in Chacabuco, Javier Lezcano.  Basque club representatives also attended including members of clubs in Junin and Pergamino.
