The fourth edition of “Txikifest,” the Txakoli Festival in New York, returns this Sunday to the Chelsea neighborhood, to soothe the dry throats of the increasingly numerous fans of this Basque wine. This festival is organized by the NY Basque restaurant Txikito, and Chef from Bilbao, Eder Montero. It has become one of the most fun events in the city in its short life. This year Basque wine companies and a dozen New York restaurants will participate with proceeds being donated to the Edible Schoolyard NYC organization.

New York, NY.  Everything is set in New York to celebrate another “Txikifest,” the Txakoli Festival organized by the Txikito Restaurant and Eder Montero.  The festival offers the chance to taste some of the best txakolis thanks to bodegas like Xarmant, Ameztoi, Uriondo, Talai Berri, Gorka Izaguirre, Itsas Mendi, Zudugarai, Ulacia, Berroia, Gaintxa, Hirultza, Luisa Ripa and Astobiza.

There will also be a dozen local restaurants participating with their pintxos and creations to accompany these wines, including: Co, Wild Edible Oyster Bar, Pool's Diner, Bar Mateo, Kuma Inn, Cucharamama, Txikito, El QuintioPino, La Vara, La Newyorkina.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to the Edible Schoolyard NYC (ESYNYC), an organization that collaborates with public schools in disadvantaged areas in the city to plant organic gardens, and to provide kitchen classrooms.

The festival will take place at 240 9th Avenue in the Chelsea (near Txikito), from 1:00-5:00pm.  This year’s poster was created by Pablo Ugartexea with the collaboration of Basque graphic designer, Leire Gonzalez.
