The “Juan Iturrioz Arrospide” section of the Titere Tibi Museum will be inaugurated under the auspices of the Chaco Basque Club

The inauguration will take place today on Sunday, July 30th at the Titere Tibi Museum in the city of Resistencia, in the Argentine province of Chaco.  The exhibition space “Juan Iturrioz Arrospide,” is named in honor of the Basque club’s founder, descendant of Basques from Irun, Gipuzkoa, architect and artists, and holder of a unique collection of puppets from around the world.  The space will also house the Kotoiaren Lurra Basque Club’s library. 

Resistencia, Argentina.   The Titere Tibi Museum, under the auspices of Chaco’s Kotoiaren Lurra Basque Club in the city of Resistencia will inaugurate the “Juan Iturrioz Arrospide” exhibition area of the museum located on Vedia Street 547.  The area will also include the first phase of objects that belonged to the founder of the local Basque club and his family, including objects from various regions of the Basque Country, Basque books, paintings, posters etc.

The Basque club’s library will also be located there, as well as be the venue for various cultural activities like talks and exhibits.

The Iturrioz family is well known in Resistencia for their huge collection of pupperts from anywhere in the world. Juan Iturrioz is an artist and his sons make puppets and collect them. Including some Basque.

The inauguration will take place at 7pm on Sunday, July 30th, the night before the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, at an event that will remember the Basque saint, founder of the Jesuit order.

Juan Iturrioz Arrospide is the son of Saturnino Iturrioz, born in Irun, Gipuzkoa in 1883 and Amalia Bayer Froschauer, born in Kamenka, a German community in Volga.  Juan is the third of five children, born on March 27, 1929 in Rolon, Argentina.  He lived in Buenos Aires, and studied at San Carlos College in Almagro, studying drawing and painint.  He was an architect, and married Nelida Beatriz Sosio, and also had two sons: Ignacio and Martin.

In 1968, he came to Resistencia to work at the National Mortgage Bank and as a teacher at the College of Architecture.  He dedicated himself to art, and worked with Raul Soldi and Luis Martigmoni, among others.  Throughout his life he exhibited in Resistencia, Buenos Aires, Bariloche, la Pampa, Santa Fe and other cities and places in Argentina like Porto Alegre (Brazil) and Paris.
