The Basque club in the Argentine province of Misiones doesn’t have its own clubhouse and so they have signed an agreement with the Rotary Club so that they can use their facilities.  The Euskal Jatorri Basque club will hold monthly food sales to raise money to reshape the locale.  The first sale was very successful with more than 150 servings sold.

Posadas, Argentina.   On April 10 the Posadas Basque club and the Rotary Club in Villa Urquiza held their first joint event.  They held a food sale that surpassed everyone’s expectations with more than 150 portions sold.  The menu chosen for the event was Basque rice, prepared by the club’s vice-president, Rene Bergara.  As Maria Silvia Soloaga, club secretary told EuskalKultura.com, “all of the activity took place in the club; the preparation of the food as well as the sale took place at the Rotary Club facilities and we want to stress how well we were received.  We sold more than 150 servings.

In the words of Soloaga, the agreement signed will benefit both institutions.  “Euskal Jatorri will continue with its monthly food sales and the money raised will help us renovate our place, and after renovations are completed the club will be able to hold part of its activities there, like meetings, gatherings, and dance class.”  On this last point, the secretary informed us that adult and txiki classes will be taught by María Ángeles Rosciani.

Film Series

Outside of the Rotary, the club also organizes activities, more specifically a Basque Film Series, that has been successfully organized over the past two years.  In 2016, they will project three films as part of the club’s community film program.  Screenings will take place on June 10, 17 and 24 at the Public Library in Posadas.

Charitable Activity

In September 2015, the Euskal Etxea celebrated its 10th anniversary and as part of the festivities there was also a charitable activity.  The goal, was to raise money to buy a TV and donate it, in the name of the club, to the Ramon Madariaga Hospital in Posadas.  “In December we made the donation,” Soloaga explained, “but because of various administrative reasons it took some time to be installed.  Now they did and they have sent us pictures of where it has been installed; in the hospital’s Children’s Oncology wing,” she said proudly.
