The Euskal Etxea in Misiones had an especially active 2016 and closed the year with something new: the celebration of the “Basque Christmas” for the first time including the arrival of Olentzero.  During the event the adult dantzaris debuted, and then club members and friends shared a meal.

Posadas, Argentina.   The end of year dinner at the Euskal Jatorri Basque Club in Posadas (more than 1,000 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires) took place last Saturday on December 17th at Lion’s Club, with a menu that included pintxos, empanadas, and pork with various sauces.  The newest thing, without a doubt, took place during the “Basque Christmas” and the representation of the visit of the Olentzero for the first time to the city.  Young and old alike at the Basque club processed with candles accompanied by the traditional song about this charming character.

Throughout the night, members of the Txikis Workshops, coordinated by Mariángeles Rosciani, entertained with their joy and dancing for the audience: they also received a certificate for having completed their first year in the Basque Workshop.  The adult dancers, on the other hand, also debuted at the event performing Kaskarot, Zazpi Jauzi, Fandango and Arin Arin.

The night continued with raffles, stories and dancing, all to enjoy the culture of Euskal Herria.

2017 Goals

Just before the New Year, the Euskal Etxea in Posadas has started planning next year’s events. Although waiting for the election of the new board that will take place in March or April, the club has already decided that it will be represented at Udaleku in Chascomus January 3-7.  Following its program of activities, they are also considering traveling to Cañuelas to dance at the Dantzari Get-Together on Aberri Eguna 2017.

In regards to daily activities, the club will also continue with its workshops, film series as well as gastronomic events.  Zorionak and Congratulaions Euskal Jatorri!
