The Azkue Foundation has created the app “Soka” in hopes of spreading Basque dance.  Based on the exhibit “Soka, euskal dantzaren urratsetan,” (Soka, in the steps of Basque dance), a complete tour through the world of Basque dance was designed by Euskal Kultur Erakundea. The app has two parts; the first is a calendar and a map of dance performances in the Basque Country; and the second is a game with questions on Basque dance.  The app is free and is available for iOS and Android.

Bilbo, Bizkaia.  The Azkue Foundation recently presented the app “Soka, Euskal Dantza,” at a press conference held at the Euskararen Etxea I Bilbao.  Attending the event were, Lorea Bilbao, Minister of Euskera and Culture at the Provincial Government of Bizkaia; Pantxoa Etchegoin, Director of Euskal Kultur Erakundea, and Iurdana Acasuso, director of the Azkue Foundation.

The app was developed in hopes of introducing Basque dance in a fun and entertaining way, via smartphones to reach a new audience. The contents of the app are based on the exhibit “Soka, euskal dantzaren uratsetan,” developed by Euskal Kultur Erakundea (EKE, based in Uztaritze, Lapurdi) that is also currently on exhibit at the Euskararen Etxea.  It also uses some content from the website www.dantzan.eus

The app is free and is available for both iOS and Android.  It has two sections: in the first there is a calendar with Basque dance performances in the Basque Country, and the second is a game with questions on Basque dance.  The last part includes 60 questions and has 4 different levels of difficulty: "kautera;” the easiest "bolanta," "aurreskularia," and "dantza-maisua", the most difficult.
