Next week, the city of Santiago will be converted into the center for various activities with a Basque flavor, thanks to Semana Vasca organized by theColectividad Vasca de Chile group in Santiago.  There will be film, talks about Euskera, a pelota tournament, a choir get-together, and on Sunday they will celebrate the feast of San Ignacio of Loyola. 

Santiago, Chile.  Everything is ready in Santiago to celebrate Semana Vasca 2015 starting on Tuesday.  The even is being organized by the Colectividad Vasca de Chile Basque club.  The events will begin on Tuesday July 28, with a talk on Euskera by Kinku Zinkunegi, coordinator of HABE’s Euskara Munduan program.  The talk is entitled, “Euskera, the Millenary Language,” and will take place at the Lope de Vega Theater.  On the same day the exhibit “Euskara in the World” will be inaugurated in Santiago.

Afterwards, film will be the main attraction with various session dedicated to Basque cinema at the Lope de Vega.  On Wednesday the comedy Kutxidazu bidea, Ixabetl will be shown with Ocho Apellidos Vascos being shown on Thursday.

On Friday the “Third Choir Get-Together” will take place with the participation of nine groups including the choirs from the Basque Community in Chile and the Basque Choir from the Euzko Etxea in Santiago.

In addition, there will be pelota tournaments on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Spanish Stadium.

Finally, Semana Vasca will conclude on Sunday with the celebration of Iñaki Deuna and mass sung by the Basque Community’s Choir at the chapel at the Spanish Stadium.
