Caracas, Venezuela. President of the Eusko Etxea in Caracas, Ibane Azpiritxaga, and the director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, held a virtual meeting on Wednesday.  The goal of the meeting was to get an update on the projects that the Basque club is carrying out, some of which have already been mentioned in these pages, along with other new proposals outlined by the Basque club in the Venezuelan capital.

The meeting was also the time when the partial return to activity at the Basque club was announced with it reopening its doors on Tuesday, November 3rd.

As Azpiritxaga explained to EuskalKultura.eus, currently in Venezuela there is a 7x7 relaxation of quarantine, seven days of radical confinement and seven of flexibility.  Under these circumstances, the club will open only during flexible weeks with a capacity limited to 40%, and open areas only available to members, including the txoko, frontons, multipurpose court and swimming pool.

"These areas are being adapted to biosafety standards," the president explained, to continue pointing out "for now, all we want is for members to be able to come to the clubhouse, to leave home and be able to do different activities, which after seven months of confinement, is necessary.”

For the month of December, Azpiritxaga says, they will reevaluate based on the November experience if possible to see, for example, if they can hold an end of the year event and “honor everyone who has left them during this chaotic 2020.” For the moment, the club confirms the postponement of the club’s 70th anniversary until next year.  The date yet to be determined.
