Macachín, Argentina. In the spring of 2020, Euzko Alkartasuna Basque Club in Macachin announced its project, “Euskal Sustraiak,” (Basque roots) to pay tribute to immigrants who came from the Basque Country to Macachin and its surrounding area.  The project has three parts: a historic archive with information on these immigrants; the construction of a monument at the north entrance to the city; and the placing of a series of plaques with information in the plaza in front of the Euskal Etxea, along with the Tree of Gernika.

Over the last few months, the project has advanced at a good pace and today has compiled historical data on approximately 500 immigrants.  The archive, however, is still open for the inclusion of more information.  Also, the club is working on a new website that will include information on the club, with a special area dedicated to immigration and direct access to the material gathered.

In regards to the inauguration of the monument, a work by sculptor and pilotari Mauro Stefanazzi, and the plaques, this was anticipated for March but was postponed due to the health situation.  Tomas Vicente, club secretary told EuskalKultura.eus that they "will possibly do it next year, next summer, in an event in which we can gather other Basque clubs and pay tribute to the Basque immigrants from our club and from all clubs in the country.”
