The recital by the Basque group from Buenos Aires will take place as part of the events planned for the 40th anniversary of Euzko Etxea's Matxin Burdin Library.  The concert will be held at the Basque club facilities, admission is free and it is open to the public.  Following, a review of the variety of offerings that have taken place lately in La Plata, in the areas of culture and sports. 

La Plata, Argentina.  The Zutarriak group directed by Iñaki Esquiroz, will come to the city of diagonals for the first time to perform a concert of traditional Basque music, mixed with some classics from the local folklore.  The show is part of the festivities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Matxin Burdin Library, and since it is November 10th, will also allow marking the Day of Tradition.  The concert will begin at 8pm at Euzko Etxea.  After the recital there will be dinner.  Please RSVP by calling 0221 457 1638 or by email:  secretaria@cvascolaplata.org.ar

In the same vein, the Basque club also reported that its choir participated in the series “Oriente Monreal,” that is part of the choir calendar 2016 “La Plata Provincial Choir Singing.”  Directed by Evangelina Bertola, the group delighted the audience with a repertoire of popular and traditional Basque works.

Xare

Also sponsored by the La Plata Basque club, during the month of November pilotaris Mikel and Iñaki Gil Najera, Alan Correa and Francisco Bozzolo visited Venado Tuerto and Santa Fe, invited by the Provincial Federation of Pilota.  In Santa Fe the Xare players taught a workshop on November 2 and played an exhibition game.  On Saturday, November 5, a group of under 22 players from the Xare School at the Basque club also joined the pilotaris on their trip to visit the Pilota Center in Mercedes, Uruguay, and hold the third edition of exchanges that began in 2015.  The Uruguayan institution and the Argentineans taught clinics to both children and adolescents.

Immigration and Film

A large number of club members, including the dantzaris, are now getting ready to participate in Semana Nacional Vasca 2016 in Necochea.  But on November 3rd the club presented the book No me olvides Armenuhi: la historia de mi Abuela Armenia (Don’t Forget me Armenuhi: the Story of My Armenian Grandmother).  The event was also organized as part of the 40th anniversary events for the Matxin Burdin Library and took place at the Provincial Cultural Station.

The Basque club especially thanks Magda Tagtachian, author of the book, and members of the group El Faldon: Florencia Gobelian, Cristina Demo and Luciana Figuretti; the Provincial Station; and Jose Saldias, from the Center for Basque Studies in Argentina; Nelida Boulgourjian, the Armenian Genocide Memory Foundation/UBA/UNTREF; Carlos Esayan, the Chair of Armenian Free Thought at the National University of La Plata, “for providing the introductory framework, and deepening the place that this experience occupies leading to migration, memory and memories,” Maria Fernanda Astigarraga, from the library Matxin Burdin told EuskalKultura.com.

The Chair for Basque Free Thought also at UNLP and the Basque club also held another segment of its Film Series “Getting to know the Land of the Basques.”  On this occasion the film Amama was shown and presented by Professor Carlos Gabilondo.
