The work was published jointly by the Chair of Free Thought and Irish Culture at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) and Lauburu Publishing.  According to the author, Maria Eugenia Cruset from La Plata, “This book is an academic work – in a way, a continuation of my Master’s thesis in International Relations – but it is easy to read and can be interesting not only to researchers on these topics but also to the general public.”

La Plata, Argentina.  As described by its author, Maria Eugenia Cruset with a Ph.D. in History, Nacionalismos y diásporas. The Basque and Irish Cases in Argentina (1862-1922)) describes “how the Irish and Basques came to Argentina, and why and how they adapted and progressed in their new country.  But also, how they stayed connected and interested with what happened in their places of origin. It also elaborates on topes like the associations, political activity, nationalism and also into some controversial subjects like the armed fight, as well as the role of women and the role of the church.”

There are points in common between both peoples that Cruset decided to study, but she also adds a personal justifications for her research, since she is a descendant of both nations.  In this way, and in regards to her current relationship with the Basque community, the author explains that besides defending her Ph.D, thesis in the public University of the Basque Country, and having visited the Basque Country several times, she has also given presentations locally with FEVA (the federation of Basque Argentinean institutions) at various Basque clubs throughout the country.  She is a member of the Arturo Campion Basque Studies Center, that is part of the Lagunen Etxea Basque Club in Laprida, Argentina.  She has also collaborated in Buenos Aires with the local Basque Summer University.  From the academic point of view she also coordinates the Irish section at the Observatory of the Nations without a State that also includes a section for the Basque Country.
