Over 40 people met at the Taix French Restaurant, in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, California to enjoy a Basque menu and sing Basque songs together. The meeting was on March 29, after more than a year since the last edition, always organized by Louise Camou, from Chino, California. “It was pretty successful –she told EuskalKultura.com−. 41 people is a good turnout and the age range was between 25 and 90, and that’s the main idea, to bring the young and the old together.”

Los Angeles, CA. Louise Camou is a Board Member at the Chino Basque Club, but this activity is not connected to that. “We do a club lunch every month, so we try to organize these other gatherings somewhere else, visiting new places,” she said. So far, this activity has been hosted in Basque restaurants in Glendora, Colton, Chino, and Los Angeles.

Camou put the first 'Kantari Eguna' together three years ago, hoping to attract both younger and older generations, “because that’s important for our community.” And she is doing a great job. She finds attracting the youth “complicated, because they are always busy, with college, studies and all that.” Nevertheless, she still thinks it is better to organize these plans throughout the academic year, since summer is always “a very busy season, with all the picnics.”

The food menu included salad, soup, lamb, and house red wine, followed by a chocolate ice-cream and coffee. And the song menu comprised popular songs like Aitorren hizkuntza zaharra, Etxe txiki txukun baten, Prima eijerra, Agur Euskal Herriari, Furra, furra or Eperra. Camou created several booklets with 75 songs that were being picked off the cuff.
