The debut of “Makila,” in Paris was a complete success, as club sources told EuskalKultura.com.  More than 600 people went to the Asnieres-sur-Seine Theater to enjoy this representation of Basque dance created by the local Basque community.  Now, organizers want to take the show to other places and Basque clubs, and invite anyone interested to get in touch with them.

Paris, France.  A large number of euskaltzale representatives from Paris attended the debut of “Makila” at the Asnieres-sur-Seine Theater on January 31st. More than 600 spectators filled the venue as club member Arlette Oçafrain told EuskalKultura.com.  Creators of the project, some 60 people including dancers, musicians and singers, were very satisfied with the reception they got.  Among the organizers is dance instructor Herve Trinquet, and musician Mikel Perez, the Gazteria dance group and singers including the Biper Neskak and the Gernika choir.

“Makila” is the result of two years of work that began thanks to Gazteria.  During this time the dance group spent numerous weekends creating, and practicing the show’s original choreographies.  The Gernika Choir also joined in during the summer, enthused about the idea of transmitting Basque culture on stage.  Another great contributor was the group that created the costumes for the show, Isabelle and Bruno Garay, Elisabeth Caserta and Josephine Trinquet.

After its successful debut, organizers were very happy with “Makila,” emphasizing that “the show created a very important meeting point for the Pariseko Eskual Etxea.”  Besides support from the club the show also received support from the Basque Government, the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Euskal Kultur Erakunea.

Other people and entities who also helped out include Alain Bidot-Naude (sound), Pierre Oteiza (buffet) and the Biscuiterie Basque (dessert).  Finally, it should be mentioned the support from individuals as well that donated 3,100 Euros via a crowdfunding campaign.

Anyone wishing to buy a DVD of the show visit Gazteria's website.
