The Laurak Bat and Euskaltzaleok Basque clubs announce the “First Diaspora Literary Letters Contest”

The Laurak Bat and Euskaltzaleok Basque clubs in Valencia urge Basque speakers and students from all over the world to participate in the “First Diaspora Literary Letters Contest.” Entries are free themed and should no more than two pages long. There are two categories, one for native speakers and another for Basque language students. Entries can be written in Batua or any dialect and will be awarded with books. The deadline to enter is January 15, 2014.

Valencia, Spain.  The Laurak Bat and Euskaltzaleok clubs in Valencia announce the “First Diaspora Literary Letters Contest” that invites people from all over the world that meet the contest criteria.  Both institutions will carry out activities in support of the Basque language including: Basque classes, film, talks, debates and various get-togethers.

By organizing the “First Diaspora Literary Letters Contest” they hope to provide an opportunity to open participation to anyone interested “to the numerous people who learn Basque with us or in other Basque clubs, and make our millenary language their own, little by little”

Criteria

1 – Letters entered in the contest must be written in Basque or any of its variations.  They should be unedited and not have been awarded in any other literary contest.

2. – Letters may not exceed two pages in length 1.5 spaced, in Arial font, size 12, one-sided only.  The literary genre is epistolary and free theme.

3. – There are two categories:

A – People who are learning Basque
B – Native speakers who use it regularly for communication

4. – Entries should be sent via email and should include a title or a slogan, as well as the category that it is destined for, as well as your name, address, telephone and email address.

5 - Entries should be sent to: lehiaketa@euskaltzaleok.net, with “Diaspora Literary Letters Contest” in the subject line.  They can also be mailed or brought in person to: Rincón de la Corbella C/ Maldonado 46, Bajos). Deadline to enter is January 15, 2014.

6. – The jury will be made up of people who represent the Basque cultural world in Valencia and representatives from Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat Basque clubs.

7. – The jury’s decision is final and the award in each category can be declared void.  Contest organizers reserve the right to publish works entered into the contest.

8. – The award will be a selection of Basques in Basque for the winners in each category.

9. – Awards will be presented during the Literary Gala dinner that, after the judges’ decision, will take place on January 41 at the Rincon de la Corbella.

10. – By entering the contest you indicate acceptance of these criteria.

11. – Entries that are not awarded will be destroyed.  The winning letter will become property of the commission organizing the contest.
