The tour program is still open for additional performances but confirmed performances include Buenos Aires on Saturday, November 5; Montevideo, on Wednesday 9; and at Semana Nacional Vasca on Friday the 11th.  On their tour of the southern cone, the trio from Iparralde will perform for an hour and a half, with material from their albums Elementuak and b_aldeak.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   Anyone attending Semana Nacional in Necochea will have the opportunity to enjoy a show of the highest level.  The group, Kalakan, known internationally thanks to their participating in Madonna’s 2012 tour, will give a concert during Semana Nacional Vasca in Necochea, on Friday November 11th. Nevertheless, this performance won’t be the only one on this trip by the trio comprised of Thierry Biscary, Xan Errotabehere and Jamixel Bereau.  In fact, other concerts have already been confirmed at the Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires (11/5), and at the Galpon Theater in Montevideo on 11/9.

In a conversation with EuskalKultura.com, Xan Errotabehere explained how the tour came about, their second as they also performed in South America in 2012 as part of the Madonna tour: “The tour project arose in a very simple manner.  They called us from the Necochea Basque club asking if we could perform at Semana Vasca keeping in mind the expense of moving a music group, and since we didn’t want to tell them no, we started to organize a small tour with people in the field of culture and producers there.  In addition to Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Necochea, we are making contacts to play in other neighboring countries, so there may be some surprises later,” he said.

Errotabehere explained that the concert will run an hour and a half, based on their albums Elementuak and b_aldeak.  The trio will move with all their instruments so that they can perform the same shows as they do on stages in the Basque Country.  “For the audience to be submerged in our world, we will bring our own decoration and lighting.  Traveling by plane limits what we can bring, but we will surely use some local resources to create our ‘universe,’ but if there are changes, they will be minimal,” he said.

In the same line of keeping the original production, besides the three musicians that make up Kalakan, their sound tech will also accompany them.  “Our tech has a very important place in our group, he is like the fourth member.  It is very important that the person doing this work knows us, and knows, understands and feels our music.  This allows the final touch to our music so that the audience can get into it, enter into our world,” he explained.

Asked if they will take advantage of their stay to visit any of the clubs, Xan Errotabehere said that they will have an opportunity to share with the Basque community while in Necochea.  “This is a huge pleasure for us to get together with Basques outside of the borders of our country.  Although we must remember for our music, our art and our culture to be known, we have to get out and play outside of the Basque area.  This is one of desires and we work at it every day,” Kalakan’s spokesperson said.
