Founded in 1895 in Buenos Aires 'Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea¡' will commemorate another anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika along with Aberri Eguna with a speech by Cesar Arrondo, followed by the showing of the documentary Gernika, and a toast.  The event will take place on April 25 at 7pm at the building located on Moreno Street 1300 where regular activities of the culture subcommittee take place like film, Euskera and mus.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea celebrated another anniversary last Wednesday.  Founded on April 1, 1895, this year the celebration was pushed back a few days to April 11^th in conjunction with a gathering of club authorities, members and friends. As every year, the club provided lunch to its members and guests and the president addressed those attending.  In his words, Lehendakari Roberto Martin Plorutti Etchegoyen, talked about the history of the club but stressed that they have to commit to its future.

Community references accompanied the club on this special date including Enrique Fagoaga, Ramon Javier Arozarena, Maria Elena Etcheverry, Olga Carricaburu, representatives from the Chacabuco and Cordoba Basque clubs, and the Basque Government delegate for Argentina and Mercosur, Sara Pagola.

Aberri Eguna and Gernika

On April 26^th, the club will commemorate another anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika including an activity the night before thanks to the subcommittee on culture with a talk by Cesar Arrondo who will talk about the event and the Day of the Basque Homeland.  As part of the event, the documentary Gernika will also be shown, followed by a toast.  The event will be on April 25^th at 7pm.

Film, Euskera and Mus Workshop “Juan Sebastian Piterbarg”

In regards to the club activities throughout the year, member of the subcommittee, Norma Rios, reminds us that the Basque Film Series began on March 14^th with Vacas.

The Mus Workshop also resumed in March. These take place on Thursdays at 7pm at the txoko and are opened to anyone interested, including both men and women, taught by muslari Domingo Trimarco.  “We started this activity last year with Dr. Juan Sebastian Piterbarg, a mus enthusiast, and club member who played for many years.  He passed away shortly after beginning and so that is why the subcommittee of culture decided to name it after him,” Rios explained.

As part of an initiative of the subcommittee and Euskaltzaleak in Buenos Aires, Basque classes will also resume in the building on Moreno Street.  You don’t have to be a club member to enroll, and classes are held on Tuesdays from 7-9pm.  “The group is very close, entertaining and meetings are very relaxed thanks to our teacher Anabel Jaureguiberry,” Norma added.
