On September 21st the Euskal Etxea in Bordeaux organized various activities as part of Heritage Day.  Club members were very happy with the response by the locals at their music and dance workshops, and at the choirs by the Bestalariak and Aizkoa choirs, as well as by the great atmosphere during the public dance at the Place des Basque, with music provided by Txanbelatxoa and other spontaneous performers who sang bertsos. Also worth mentioning, is the surprise that club members received when they were unexpectedly visited by six music bands from Euskal Herria.

Bordeaux, France. Officers of the Bordeaux Basque Club were very satisfied by the response that they received at the activities organized for Heritage Day, realizing that yes; some of the events were not as well attended as hoped due to the weather.  “We had fewer people than expected at the music and dance workshops by Zenbat Gara, and then we realized why, the weather was great and so many locals went to the beach,” David Mugica, club president explained to EuskalKultura.com.  “It was too bad, because the musicians from Zenbat Gara really added a lot to the atmosphere.”

Another main event was the concert by the Bestalariak and Aizkoa choirs at the Church of Saint Pierre that was attended by nearly 250 people.  A great success, and with two choirs with very different styles, besides,” Mugica said. Finally, as every year, the day concluded with a public dance in the Place des Basques that attracted a lot of people.  “There was tremendous atmosphere, with the group Txanbelatxoa, singers from Aizkoa, and some even sang and improvised some bertsos”

A memorable moment from the day was a surprise for the organizers and volunteers when they were visited by six Tamborradas from Iparralde at their stand at the Place du Palais.  They were from Hendaia, Donibane Lohizune, Ziburu, Biarritz, Donazaharre and Hazparne, and came to Bordeaux to attend the 30th Anniversary of the band from Bordeaux, Les San Soucis.  To see a video visit their Facebook page.

Finally, the night before, on September 20th the new facade of the Bordeaux Euskal Etxea was inaugurated, at an event that was attended by the Mayor, Alain Juppé
