The workshop was aimed especially to anyone who is responsible for children in the Basque clubs and was evaluated by participants as being “very successful.” Basque club representatives didn’t only have the possibility to learn contents and methodology, but they also were able to share experiences with their peers in other clubs.  Following its annual program, FEVA also invites everyone to the “Haztearren, gogoeta" (Reflecting to Grow) conference on August 6-7 in Rosario.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   FEVA’s second “Reflecting to Grow” workshop of 2016, will take place on August 6-7 at the Zazpirak Bat Basque club in Rosario.  In hopes of encouraging youth in the Basque clubs to participate, and contribute to their training as future leaders, the activity will focus on the presenting problems, and working on solutions along with the board of directors of FEVA, and the workshop’s coordinator, Ana Idigoras.

As a way of compiling the topics to be discussed, the organizers invite participants to reflect on the following questions:  What is the function and the sense of the existence of FEVA?  What is the function and sense of the existence of Basque clubs? What activities are carried out at the clubs?  Should others be developed?  If yes, are they difficult to carry out?  Which?  Are changes necessary? Which?

The workshop will run for two days.  Here is the program:

Saturday, August 6: Beginning of the workshop. Activities during the day.  Dinner at 9pm;
Sunday August 7: Workshop will continue, conclusions.  1pm closing lunch.

FEVA will cover the costs of the stay (lodging in shared rooms and meals) while each club should cover travel (FEVA will share the cost at 50% for travel up to 2 participants of active clubs and those who are 700km or more from Rosario).  Deadline to enroll is July 25, and information should be sent via email to: feva2000@fibertel.com.ar), including name, DNI, and participant age.

Meeting and workshop for monitors of Txikis

The event took place on June 25-26 in Buenos Aires at the Laurak Bat Basque club and was attended by some 40 Basque club representatives from all over the country.

Working points on the weekend had to do with the constitution of the groups of children, from questions like what activities are usually done at the clubs, how often, group characteristics, if the children are visible in the club, and how to attract children to the club.

They also talked about resources and materials, consulting each participant with what material they work with, where do they get it, if they have enough at their club, how they can generate more resources for free, if it would help if there were a plant with materials that combine dance, Euskera, stories, songs and games; and how to share the material.

As Agustina Monterrosa, representative of the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque club in Chascomus told EuskalKultura.com, “It was a very good experience on the personal level where we are going to be able to apply at our club that has a large number of children.  We learned different forms of teaching the children about culture and language through various games and exercises, about how to mix playing and teaching.  It also helped us to review the teacher’s place, maintaining that bond with the children that allows us to play, while also serving as an authority figure.  It was a very good experience for us to make contacts with other Basque clubs, to keep us informed and be able to exchange resources.”

Looking to the future, steps will also be taken to continue and to talk about plans for the Txikis Workshop 2016 and 2017, marking its 20th anniversary.
