Next Wednesday, the event will be Etxe Nasaia an activity aimed at lessening the impact of the economic crisis in the school and to strengthen the link between the Basque club and the community.  Participating in the proposal in April are fourth graders at Elementary School No. 45, Estanislao Lopez who will come to the clubhouse to play and eat lunch.

270th Anniversary

On Saturday, April 14th the city of San Nicolas celebrated its 270th anniversary with the re-inauguration of the new San Martin Park complete with a parade that included local institutions and communities.  In the name of the Basque club the standard-bearers, Leandro Gil Mutti and Isidoro Gil Mutti marched with both the Argentine flag and the Ikurriña.

According to the club’s current president, Maria Erausquin, “the founder of San Nicolas was Rafael de Aguiar, his wife was of Basque origin, Paulina Ugarte de Aguiar. As the story goes, Aguiar founded the city on land that his father-in-law left him.  In this area camps were established and this the descent of the river where the animals drank.  Another passage of the story talks about the Indians winning the Canyon again so that animals could go down to the river to drink.”

Upcoming activities

Looking to the coming weeks, on May 6th, the Basque Club has a very important date, in the capital city.  The renowned sukaldaris from San Nicolas will participate in “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” with their gigantic paella.  All the while, the club’s regular activities will also continue including Basque and dance classes and the choir.
